Dwayne Johnson is currently busy with his business and Hollywood projects, which makes his WWE return improbable. But if it ever happens, WWE is sure to put a lot of resources into advertising the return, as it will help the promotion rise above its competition.

Something similar happened back in 2004 when the Stamford-based company advertised his return. Surprisingly, a WWE legend calls that move “unfortunate”. Even though it didn’t kill the momentum of Johnson’s return, if it hadn’t been advertised, fans would have witnessed an iconic moment.

The Rock’s appearances are special, as he rarely shows up on WWE shows. This was the case in 2004 when he appeared ahead of WrestleMania 20 to team up with Mick Foley and take on Evolution (Batista, Randy Orton & Ric Flair). But ‘The Hardcore Legend’ did not appreciate WWE advertising it.

As WWE fans, we all remember the March 1, 2004 episode of RAW when The Rock returned to help Foley. Recently, on the ‘FOLEY is POD’ podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer shared about not being a fan of the company advertising the return of ‘The Great One’.

He said, “I think he’s leaving out, the important thing alright, ‘I’m going to call him right, I’m going to call him now’. And bailing out of there almost power walking and then turning around and going instead of me calling him boom here he comes.”

He added, “So it was, yeah, it was unfortunate Rock had been advertised, but I don’t think it hurt the pop. Another one I’ll go on the record is Road Warrior-esque.”

The three on two handicap match was Johnson’s first match in 2004. Previously, he had wrestled Goldberg in April 2003 at Backlash PLE. The anticipation was more in 2004 as the return was hyped.

Nevertheless, The Rock n Sock Connection lost against Evolution at the grandest stage. ‘The People’s Champion’ then focused on his Hollywood career and returned to have a match in the 2011 Survivor Series.

Dwayne Johnson can return to WWE during the Hollywood strike

Hollywood is currently seeing a rare shutdown that it hasn’t seen in the last 60 years. Several movie projects have been halted because of the strike. However, The Rock can take this opportunity and make a quick return to WWE. He can culminate his feud with Grayson Waller or can have a segment with Roman Reigns.

Either way, if he plans to return, WWE is sure to advertise the same a week before. What are your thoughts on Mick Foley’s comments? Share your opinion below.
