

WWE fans never thought they would get to see the day when Vince McMahon will no longer be in charge of things. He was so involved with everything in WWE that not a single thing went on air without McMahon’s stamp of approval. Many fans even thought that McMahon would continue to run the company until his last breath. And it seems that what he had in mind too.

Former WWE Champion, Shawn Michaels, who is part of the new regime in the company, recently talked about how he never thought McMahon would leave his position and that people thought he would pass away at the job one day.
Shawn Michaels said Vince McMahon used to joke about dying in the gorilla position
Following Vince McMahon‘s sudden retirement a few months ago, WWE has underwent some changes in its structure. Stephanie McMahon, Vince’s daughter, is the new Co-CEO along with Nick Khan, while Triple H holds the position of the Chief Content Officer and is also the Head of the Creative.
Triple H’s longtime friend, Shawn Michaels, is also a part of the new setup. The ‘Heartbreak Kid’ is the Vice President of Talent Development, and also oversees the running of WWE’s developmental brand, NXT. Recently, he appeared on The MMA Hour and talked about a number of things, including the feeling of not seeing his former boss in the gorilla position.

During the interview, the host, Ariel Helwani, asked the two-time WWE Hall of Famer, if he imagined Vince McMahon ever leaving the gorilla position. Michaels confessed he never envisioned it happening. He said those who worked for Vince knew he would never quit his position. He also revealed that McMahon used to joke around that if he dies in the gorilla position, the show must go on.
Michaels stated, “I never envisioned the time when Vince [McMahon] wasn’t there running stuff. All of us who have known him… and I mean this lovingly, but he wanted to pass at his desk. He always made jokes that, ‘If I die at Gorilla position, the show has to go on. Don’t move me.’”

Indeed, it was hard for fans to imagine the day, when someone not named, Vince McMahon, would run the WWE. He oversaw the company’s rise, struggles, wars and triumph. People who closely worked with him knew that it was hard to keep away from the office.
‘The Show Stopper’ worked for Vince McMahon for almost the entirety of his career. He wrestled for WWE in the 90s, and made a comeback in 2002, after an injury. His second run with the company lasted until 2010.

Despite being a divisive figure during his career, no one can question the dedication of Vince McMahon towards WWE. It was his vision and passion that transformed not only WWE, but pro wrestling into a global entertainment juggernaut.
