“I Was Pretty Pissed”: Dwayne Johnson Recalled Horrible 2006 Accident That Had Put His Acting Career on Hold

Dwayne Johnson is one of the most successful Hollywood actors today. He has starred in some of the highest-grossing movies at the box office. All this could’ve been different, as The Rock went through a personal crisis that nearly jeopardized his acting career.

The former WWE Champion began his acting career in 2001, with the movie ‘The Mummy Returns’. He would continue his Hollywood adventure with moderate success initially.

In 2007, he starred in the movie ‘The Game Plan’, playing the role of a famous American football player. However, just before the shooting began, the former WWE Champion injured himself while practicing football.

Dwayne Johnson ruptured his Achilles tendon

The Game Plan was one of Dwayne Johnson’s early Hollywood flicks, as he was finding his feet in the industry.

Unfortunately, The Rock suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon injury during a football practice session to prepare for his role as a professional quarterback in the movie.

In an interview with Access Hollywood in 2006, he talked about how the injury happened and how he felt about it.

The Rock said, “I did a little rollout play-action pass and threw to the receiver and I just came down at that precise time while all my weight was aligned on my foot on that tendon and I ruptured my Achilles tendon”.

He further added, “I started to think I’m gonna go home gonna have surgery. I got a great surgeon. And there’s a lot of jobs that just got put on hold up here in Boston for this movie. So I was pretty pissed at that .”

The Brahma Bull said he also appreciated how Disney put the production on hold and waited for him to return.

The A-List Hollywood star was treated by world-class orthopedic surgeon Dr. John W. Uribe in Miami. Later, he managed a full recovery and resumed his role in the Disney family comedy movie.

The Game Plan did well at the box office and it would set Dwayne Johnson on a path to achieve success going into the new decade. The Rock later starred in several blockbuster movies and provided a new lease of life to many top franchises.

Today, the WWE Hall of Famer is a top-tier Hollywood celebrity and a successful entrepreneur as well.
