Ric Flair is perhaps one of the greatest ever pro wrestlers to lace up a pair of boots. The 74-year-old has had a stellar career in the ring. He is also one of the few to have a career spanning five decades. With the sheer number of matches he had, Flair’s body, unsurprisingly, has taken a hit. It showed in 2017 when the two-time WWE Hall of Famer suffered a horrific medical plight.

Speaking to comedian Theo Von on his This Past Weekend podcast, the WWE legend recalled the horrors he suffered six years ago.

It is quite frankly a miracle that Flair is still alive. The Nature Boy suffered multiple organ failures in 2017. It was so bad that he needed surgery to fix it.

When he told Von, “Well, when I almost died in ’17”, the host told him that he is aware of a bunch of incidents that could have killed Flair. So, Von asked for clarity. Flair replied, “Oh, 2017. My intestine rupture. I had sepsis, respiratory heart failure, total kidney failure, pneumonia.”

Flair shared that the sepsis was the worst part of his ordeal. “I was in coma for 13 days,” he added. Flair was put into a medically induced coma by doctors.

His condition then triggered a wave of prayers and good wishes from fans as friends and family, including daughter Charlotte Flair, urged the same from faithful. Taking to Instagram, the 14-time world champion called her father a fighter while asking fans to pray for him.

Fortunately, Flair was able to regain his health, He not only was able to stand up again but also took to the ring to display his legendary skills as last as 2022. In fact, Flair made his in-ring retirement in July 2022.
