On WrestleMania 39, dreams were shattered when Cody Rhodes lost to Roman Reigns. For days after that, Rhodes not only had to go through his tragic loss but also the things that his close friends put him through. Rhodes was thriving in AEW, the company that he helped to lay the foundation of. He was the biggest star there and sat on the top of the ladder. Despite all this, a gnawing feeling kept eating him from the inside, which forced him to leave the Jacksonville-based company.
He left the company for a purpose, with a goal in mind. And he yet has to complete the goal. After his WrestleMania loss, his friends consoled him but Rhodes was rather annoyed by it.

To accomplish his dream, ‘The American Nightmare’ left AEW and joined WWE, where he started his quest for gold. He aimed to win the WWE Championship title in his hand and make his late father, Dusty Rhodes, proud. So he began his journey as the 2023 Royal Rumble winner and met Reigns at WrestleMania 39.
Unfortunately, he lost his battle and had to deal with not only a humiliating loss but also pitiful sympathies from his close friends who consoled him by saying he had at least headlined WrestleMania.
“I had immensely prepared for the amount of ‘Oh my gosh but you main evented WrestleMania, Oh dude, you main evented WrestleMania’,” he said during an interview with Sports Illustrated.
He added, “I kept hearing, ‘You already won,’ and I wanted… even some of my close friends, I wanted just to jab [them] right in the jaw.” Despite being prepared for all the pity, it overwhelmed Rhodes when his friends felt sorry for him, which made him angry.
‘The American Nightmare’ is currently involved in a rivalry with Brock Lesnar, but he still has his eyes set on the gold.
Rhodes still wants to pursue his dream
During the interview, Rhodes revealed he is not done with Reigns and wants to see his rivalry through to the end. He can’t accept that after so much hard work, he got to see no result. Right now, he has shifted his focus toward Lesnar and defeating him at SummerSlam.

He is hoping to put a full stop to his story with Lesnar at SummerSlam so that he can resume his feud with the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. He hopes his fans continue to be a part of his journey after his battle with ‘The Beast’.
‘The American Nightmare’ is not done, and the fans are certainly not done with Reigns vs Rhodes storyline. Considering the fact that the rivalry abruptly took a halt after Lesnar jumped into the picture, there is a high chance WWE will rekindle their feud in the future.
