WWE legend and NXT General Manager William Regal might’ve just broken people’s hearts. Before NXT Takeover: In Your House went off the air, Regal dropped a hint about his future, and it wasn’t a good one. Will one of NXT’s longest standing pillars walk out of the black and yellow brand?
William Regal cuts a disheartening promo
As a WWE superstar, William Regal’s career did not hit the heights one would’ve wanted it to. He remained one of the finest workers in the company and could have a great match with anyone. However, his run as NXT General Manager set him apart from the field. His run marked the transition of NXT from simply WWE’s development territory to a global force in wrestling.

Before the show went off the air, McKenzie Mitchell caught up with Regal as he exited the Capitol Wrestling Center. When she asked him for his thoughts on the event, Regal cut a cryptic promo of sorts. “It’s been seven years since I became the GM of NXT and I’ve never seen so much bedlam. It’s complete madness. I think it’s time for a change.”

What could this change be? Is William Regal genuinely leaving WWE for good, or is he only departing from NXT? One can picture Regal working a corporate job at WWE Headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, but he’d be an excellent scout for NXT’s UK Performance Center.
We can only wait and see what Regal really meant with this sad announcement. A change is necessary for NXT, but losing its crown jewel would be devastating for the brand.

Who could be the next General Manager of NXT?
If Regal is out of the door, his position will be vacant for a grand total of a week before WWE appoints a new General Manager. But who will ‘takeover’ one of the most important jobs in WWE? All signs point towards a former World Champion.
Daniel Bryan has frequently claimed his current run in WWE would be his last run as a wrestler. The former WWE Champion played a brilliant part in the Edge vs Reigns vs Bryan saga at WrestleMania 37. He even put over Roman again on SmackDown. Now that he’s banished from SmackDown, NXT could benefit from his presence.

If his friendship with Triple H wouldn’t be an influencing factor, Shawn Michaels would be a fantastic General Manager of NXT. His rare appearances, most recently before Takeover: Stand and Deliver alongside Santos Escobar and Jordan Devlin, brought smiles to the faces of the NXT Universe. He’s a front-runner to get the job if Regal exits.
