WWE had a couple of aces up their sleeves for Money In The Bank PLE. The crowd at The O2 Arena was taken aback as John Cena decided to pay a surprise visit. The Cenation Leader received one of the loudest pops of the night. The decibel was almost matched for a returning superstar who remained absent from the WWE for close to three months.
Right after Gunther overcame a challenge from Matt Riddle during the Intercontinental Championship match, Drew McIntyre walked out. The sight of the two-time WWE Champion sent the fans into a frenzy. This was McIntyre’s maiden appearance after his loss to Gunther in a triple-threat match at WrestleMania 39 in April.
Hours after the Scotsman’s return, WWE Head of Creative, Triple H took the opportunity to bury the hatchet between fans and the promotion, who had criticized WWE for not giving McIntyre his due amid rumors of him being unhappy.

Thrilled to have him back, says Triple H as Drew McIntyre renews feud with Gunther
McIntyre hasn’t forgotten his loss at the SoFi Stadium on April 2. Gunther beat him and Sheamus to retain his championship. So, in their first encounter at the ring, McIntyre made sure to renew his rivalry with the Austrian native. He hit Gunther with a Claymore and then soaked in the appreciation from the crowd as his victim lay on the ring, writhing in pain.
The move not only took down his nemesis, but it also served as an assault on certain speculations. For the unversed, The Scottish Psychopath’s return came at the heels of reports stating that McIntyre and WWE were not on the same page regarding his contract and therefore he could be on his way out. The absence lent credibility to this theory as fans slammed the WWE for failing the superstar.
But at the press conference that followed the PLE, Triple H laid bare the facts. The 14-time world champion was instrumental in getting McIntyre back and furnishing his second run in the promotion. “It’s always a funny thing, the amount of speculation that happens around things. I read stuff. We see stuff all the time, right?… Like, 75% of it is completely off base,” The Game said.
The 53-year-old hailed the former Intercontinental Champion as “one of the highlight superstars in this time frame, in this era”, adding he’s “thrilled to have him back.”
Addressing the rumors, Triple H said, “When all this stuff was coming up, it’s funny, we were talking on the phone here and there, and he’d be like, just laughing. Like, ‘Oh my God, have you read this now?’ It just is what it is.”

Triple H opens up on his bonhomie with Drew McIntyre
The WWE Head of Creative said McIntyre’s absence from the company was due to his injuries and not a fallout with the promotion. He also recalled keeping in touch with the Scotsman.
“Hopefully he’s here for the rest of his career. That’s how I feel about it. He and I speak about it all the time,” Triple H said.
The 53-year-old also said that the former champion wanted the WWE to fix something, and the company obliged. “If Drew had an issue, it’s news to me. He just was out with an injury and getting some stuff fixed. And while he was out, he had something else he wanted to get fixed. So we did it. And here he is,” he said.

While there’s no clear confirmation as to what that something is, it is likely to be McIntyre contract, which was set to expire early next year. But fans would still be hoping for an official announcement from WWE and McIntyre regarding this.
