“I Ran Into the Bedroom”: Dwayne Johnson Once Narrated How Oprah Winfrey Inadvertently Ignited a Fight Between Him and His Wife

There is an old adage that goes, “Hell has no fury like a woman scorned”. And Dwayne Johnson once experienced the truth of that statement in his house. Johnson once said the very thing that you cannot say to your wife. Although he was poking fun at his wife, Lauren Hashian, he retracted the joke after facing her wrath. 

Dwayne Johnson is undeniably one of the most likable people on the planet. But no matter how big of an attraction he is in Hollywood and WWE, at home, he is a father and a husband. And his wife Lauren is his “gayle”. 

Dwayne Johnson once had a whale of a time poking fun at his wife

The Red Notice actor met Lauren Hashian in 2006 when the former was shooting for ‘The Game Plan’. Despite being in a long-term relationship, the couple did not tie the knot until 2019. 2023 marks the couple’s sixteenth year together. Johnson and Hashian are parents to two beautiful daughters, Tiana and Jasmine. 

As a husband, Johnson has a “horrible” way of expressing his affection to his wife. During an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Dwayne Johnson shared an anecdote about how his wife got angry with him before he came to the show. When Oprah asked the Hollywood mogul about his “Gayle”, The Rock responded by narrating a hilarious story. 

According to him, the previous night, his wife was excited about Johnson’s interview with Oprah Winfrey. But then, The Rock ruined it with a joke. He told his wife that Oprah was going to ask who his gayle is. Naturally, Lauren expected to hear her name come out of Johnson’s mouth but he said that his gayle was his friend “Nick”, someone he knew when he was 15. While Hashian did not say much, she was bothered. And finally, she made sure that Johnson learns that she is her Gayle.

He said, “My wife Lauren, she goes, ‘Are you excited about tomorrow? So I can’t wait, it’s gonna be so good’. And I said, ‘You know what I know that Oprah’s gonna ask me who my Gayle is’. And she sitting there and I could just see her face kind of lights up a little and she’s like shifting a little and she’s like oh I mean who‌’s your Gayle? And of course for me because I’m horrible at that way I’m like oh there’s an opportunity, so I go well that’s crazy but I think when I was 15 I had this, my friend Nick…

Although Johnson called Hashian the “sweetest woman” he narrated that he made his way to the kitchen and texted his wife to come and join him but he was met with an angry response.

He added, “She hits me right back bang capital letters ‘Nick is not your gayle. He is not your Gayle with 10 exclamation points.’ And I ran into the bedroom. I said I’m kidding, you’re my Gayle. So it would be my wife, Lauren.”

Nevertheless, Dwayne Johnson is very family-centered. As the only man in the house, Johnson is outmatched with the ladies. 

Dwayne Johnson and Lauren Hashian had a lowkey wedding in Hawaii

By profession, Lauren Hashian is a musician, but she keeps a lowkey profile due to her husband’s influence in showbiz. After dating for several years, Dwayne Johnson and Lauren Hashian said “I do” to each other on August 18, 2019. 

Their wedding preparations started in the wee hours of the morning in Hawaii. Johnson described the occasion as “magical”. The couple got married on “Garden Island”, which is the fourth largest island in Hawaii. The Island is also known as Kauai. 

Dwayne Johnson revealed on Ellen DeGeneres Show that the ceremony took place at 7:45 and that it was a low key and private affair.
