The attitude era Rock was something special. The superstar had the ability to lure crowds and take over any show he was on. While he transitioned into a mellow Dwayne Johnson years later, fans still remember his old persona, where he feuded with the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan. Despite beating them both, there is one superstar who The Rock couldn’t beat.

Now years later, in a candid interview, a former WWE legend has given some new deets about his only matchup with The Rock and its significance in wrestling.

Dwayne Johnson never beat this opponent?

Gregory Helms, aka The Hurricane, was an interesting character that made his debut in WWE in 2001 as “Hollywood” Gregory Helms.  But fans fondly remember him as The Hurricane, who used to wear a superhero costume with a mask. With his endearing acts, he quickly became a fan favorite, even winning the cruiserweight title and the tag-team title with Kane during his run.

However, none of his exploits have been more prolific than when he beat ‘The Great One’ inside the squared circle. Now in a fun sit-down interview with Chris Van Vliet, the former star, gave deets on his only match with The Rock.

He quoted: “I think it was his last match on Raw too, his last main event or something like that. Yeah, I ran him out.” However, he was quick to add that: “He’s one of the best performers there’s ever been.”

While the superstars never faced off again, fans still remember their outing strongly, mainly because of the shock element and Johnson’s post-match reaction.

Now, years later, when DJ has established himself as one of the highest-paid actors with a net worth of over $800 million, this standalone moment of the 50-year-old failing to beat Helms will always make fans giddy.

Reliving their iconic bout

Admitting the fact that the pressure was on him to deliver, Helms still managed to put on an entertaining bout with Johnson. The two started feuding after The Brahma Bull referred to ‘The Hurricane’ as “The Hamburglar”, which was one of the characters in McDonald’s commercials since both of them wore masks.

This culminated in a match between them on an episode of Raw in 2003. While DJ dominated the match initially, he eventually lost after Austin interrupted and allowed The Hurricane to roll up his opponent for the victory.

The result stunned everybody, including Helms, while Austin laughed at a shocked Rock. Luckily for Johnson, he was able to put that aside as he finally beat Austin at Wrestlemania 19, in what turned out to be The Rattlesnake’s final match till his return in 2022 at Wrestlemania 38 against Kevin Owens.
