Kurt Angle is certainly one of the greatest WWE wrestlers of all time. The former Heavyweight champion and Olympian has faced many formidable does over the course of his long, illustrious career, but some of them stuck out more than others. In 2021, on The Kurt Angle Show, the American Hero joked about a WWE legend he admires.

Kurt Angle, a member of the WWE Hall of Fame, has spoken openly about his personal friendship with legendary wrestler Rey Mysterio, whom he refers to as one of his greatest friends. Angle opened up and said that he loved the guy since the first day they met.

The dynamic between Kurt Angle and Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio competed against Kurt Angle in the SummerSlam 2002 pay-per-view opener shortly after making his WWE debut on SmackDown. The crowd was impressed by Mysterio’s amazing agility and command of Lucha Libre, but Angle ultimately prevailed.

“Rey [Mysterio] is such a great worker. I knew the match would be awesome. I wasn’t that concerned about him, but I knew it was up to me to establish him. I was happy to do that. He’s such a great wrestler; not only that, he’s a great individual.”

Mysterio made his company debut twenty years ago and has been a working in-ring performer for nearly three decades.

“He’s one of my best friends, I absolutely loved Rey the day I met him, and I never fell out of love with him. I love the guy today. I would marry the dude. He’s awesome.” Added Angle.

The Master of 619 is still a significant presence in the business; he currently mostly performs in tag teams with his son, Dominik.

Damian Priest and Finn Balor will be the opponents of Mysterio and Edge on September 3rd at the Clash at the Castle Premium Live Event in Cardiff, Wales. Edge had some a message for everyone right before this match-up.

“Clash at the Castle this Saturday, Cardiff, Wales. The Judgement Day, Damian Priest and Finn Balor versus me and Rey Mysterio. Now, you guys say you are going to retire me and Rey, and good for you, you should want to retire us, but do you know how many people have tried to retire us and failed? So hop in line,” he said.

Since SummerSlam 1992, this will be the first stadium event that WWE has ever held in the UK.
