The unfortunate nature of a person’s physique is that it doesn’t always stay the same. Now imagine you’re Ric Flair, strutting around, enthralling the crowd as The Nature Boy in the 80s and 90s. You have a robust physique that can withstand any amount of pain inflicted by the opponent. You must be feeling invincible like Flair did. But it had a terrible impact decades later. So much so, that it sent the 16-time world champion in a self-deprecating rant. The episode is from his health scare in 2017.

Flair revisited the plight during a two-hour-long chat with comic Theo Von on his This Past Weekend podcast. While they spoke about various issues, Flair wasn’t shy to admit the scare that almost left him hopeless.

The pro wrestling legend suffered multiple organ failures and was down with various medical complications during the said time. According to Flair, he suffered an intestine rupture, sepsis, respiratory heart failure, total kidney failure, and pneumonia.

All these led to the doctors keeping him in a medically induced coma for 13 days. While he recovered, Flair was a bit harsh on himself after waking up. “I had no memory for six months going backwards…  of course, I recognized everybody, but I couldn’t remember anything. I didn’t remember going to the hospital,” he told Von.

Seeing himself in that state was the hardest thing for the WWE legend. “So, when I finally started taking a toll of myself, I thought f**k, I’m really a f**king, I’m a nightmare. A cosmetic f**king nightmare. I looked like s**t.”

When Von asked him to explain what he meant by a cosmetic nightmare, Flair pointed at different parts of his chest and said it had a scar. “And I lost 41 pounds… It was bad,” he said.

As a wrestler, Flair had to consume a certain amount of food to keep himself in shape. But it took a hit after his medical condition in 2017. Appearing on Men’s Health YouTube channel for an episode of their popular ‘Gym & Fridge’ segment, Flair shared what he particularly avoids currently.

He said he’s watchful of his diet and doesn’t consume anything spicy. In 2022, Flair detailed his present diet, which was chalked out after his 2017 surgery.

“Chicken, fish, fresh vegetables steamed. I only have one cheat day a week. So I was 240 lbs, that was like 238 lbs down to 218 lbs, maybe 235 lbs to 218 lbs. Plus a four, four, two days a week. I tried five at first but I was just too tired,” he said while stating he was in the best shape of his life.

No wonder, Flair has been able to battle the rough time and is going strong currently. He and the fans would be hoping that 2017 doesn’t ever occur again.
