The Anoa’i family is one major wrestling family that has given the world of pro wrestling some elite talents. What started with High Chief Peter Maivia in the WWWF in the 1970s is being carried on by descendants in the Bloodline to date.

One of the major names that came out of the illustrious wrestling dynasty is Afa Anoa’i. The legend after suffering two major heart attacks is finally being released from the hospital.

The wrestling community got a major scare when WWE Hall of Famer and the ‘Tribal Chief’ Roman Reign’s uncle Afa Anoa’i was admitted to the hospital on Thursday because of pneumonia. Moreover, he suffered further misery as he encountered two heart attacks, one on arrival and the other on Friday.

However, fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief. According to a recent update provided by Afa’s WXW (World Xtreme Wrestling) promotion on Twitter, the 81-year-old veteran is finally being discharged from South Lake Hospital in Orlando.

Sharing two pictures of the veteran, they wrote, “It’s been a harrowing few days, but our beloved Pops, #WWE Hall of Famer Afa the Wild Samoan, is coming home from the hospital today! He battles pneumonia and two mild heart attacks, but in his own words: “I kicked out at 1!”

Afa earned his roses in pro wrestling with his involvement as part of the legendary tag team Wild Samoans. The WWE legend formed a union with his brother and Roman Reign’s father, Sika. The duo dominated their era of tag team wrestling and held a staggering 21 tag team championships around the world. So it didn’t come as a surprise to many when the duo entered the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007.

The legendary tag-team

The duo was one of the biggest tag teams to exist during their era after beginning their career in Stu Hart’s Stampede Wrestling in 1973. They ascended the ranks and amassed over 21 tag championships by the end of their illustrious career. But what stood them apart from their contemporaries wasn’t just the sheer in-ring dominance. The slightly weird gimmick the two shared also played a part in separating them from the rest of the pack.

The two were wild, literally. Sporting afros, fu Manchu mustaches, and tribal tattoos, the duo barely spoke in interviews and preferred grunting in a primitive dialect that only their manager Capt. Lou Albano could understand. And not limited to interactions, the two also loved going all crazy with their antics. Nose-picking, biting opponents, and sometimes going as far as eating raw fish during interviews were some of the trademarks of the tag team.

By the time they disbanded in 1997, the two had established themselves as legends of the sport. After their retirement, Sika trained wrestlers at the Wild Samoans Training Center. Afa on the other hand managed The Headshrinkers in the WWF from 1992 to 1995.

And now their descendants continue to uphold and enhance their legacies. Two of their flesh and blood aim to have a feud with one another as the Rock wants to ‘sit at the head of the table’. However, Reigns would have something to say about that as he continues to walk his path of greatness.
