“I Don’t Wanna Hear That”: 54- Year-Old Wrestling Legend Recalls a Former WCW Star Angry Over WWE for Not Booking Him Properly in Early 2000S

Kurt Angle has got one foot in a boat sailing toward MMA. However, he still hasn’t lost touch with his pro-wrestling past. The WWE legend was called a celebrity guest in the PFL Challenger Series in February 2023. Considering everything going on in his life, the former wrestler still loves to recall his days in WWE.

 In a recent episode of his podcast, ‘The Kurt Angle Show’, American Hero recalled some of his favorite memories. He even mentioned how his iconic WrestleMania 19 fight with Brock Lesnar almost didn’t happen. While talking about his WWE journey, he shed some light on an old friend.

Chris Benoit was a talented fighter who debuted in WWF. However, like several other wrestlers of his time, he left the promotion to reinvent himself in WCW. The wrestler had immense success there. Although, upon his return, his career slowed down due to a considerable speed bump 

Kurt Angle’s cold concern hurt his friend

American Hero recalls his fellow wrestler as “a big star in WCW.” He recalled how Benoit made a splash in the WWE on his debut. His reputation meant that he got his hands on a main event bout against Triple H on Monday Night Raw. However, after this, Benoit had to wait a long time before he could experience a similar stature as an opponent. “Vince [McMahon] decided ‘I’m gonna pull this guy down and I’m gonna recreate him’. They pulled him down to the opening card and Chris had to work his way back up again,” recalled Angle disappointedly.

Although the Wild Pegasus ended up earning back the goodwill, Angle didn’t quite appreciate it. He was hurt on Benoit’s behalf because of his talent and pedigree. “There were times when I was like, ‘oh my god, they’re not gonna do anything with Chris. This is crazy because Chris deserves it more than anybody,’” said Angle while recollecting what he felt all those years back. While this continued, one day he said, “they’re not using you right.” These words really upset Benoit.

How did the wrestler reply to Kurt Angle?

Even though Benoit most probably understood the concern, he did not appreciate the brutal truth. After staying silent for about half an hour, The Canadian Crippler said, “don’t ever say that to me again.” King Kurt explained himself by saying, “I’m just saying, Chris, you should be utilized more.” To this, the WWE legend remembers that the Wild Pegasus laid down the law: “I don’t wanna hear that“.

Kurt Angle apologized for his behavior. Eventually, even after all the struggle, Benoit regained his reputation in WWE yet again.
