Roman Reigns’ run as the Undisputed Universal Champion has been incredible. He has held the World Championship for over two years and continues dominating. Not only this, the ‘Tribal Chief’s boasts one of the most powerful move sets in WWE. Out of all his moves, Reigns has used the spear to great effect and made the move his own. But as we know, he is not the first wrestler to use the spear as a finisher.

For Roman Reigns, the spear is one of his go-to moves. Given his size, it looks like a good fit for him. However, WWE legend Goldberg, who popularized the move, recently talked about how his spear looks more effective than Reigns’ version.
Goldberg takes a dig at Roman Reigns for his spear
Years before Roman Reigns began using the spear as a finisher, Goldberg was spearing wrestlers’ guts out with the move in WCW. Since then a few other wrestlers, including the former SHIELD member, have used it to hurt opponents. WWE Hall of Famer Edge used it during his run at the top of the card as well.
Fans have also argued about which wrestler’s iteration of the move is best. Though Edge used it for a long time, many believe Goldberg and former ECW star Rhyno’s version may be the best. This could be because of their brute strength and physicality. There is also little doubt that Roman Reigns adds his own impact when he uses the move.
But Goldberg had an interesting take recently when he talked about Reigns’ version of the spear. He took an exception to the comments made by the ‘Head of the Table’ about hitting people hard in the ring.
On the Roman Atwood podcast, Goldberg said that his hard-hitting approach is better. He added that it brings a little more realism in the ring. He said, “I’ll just be honest, Roman said how stupid it is to go out and hit people hard. Well, if you hit people hard and not hurt them, blur that line, I think it’s pretty smart. Plus, I don’t look like a, no offense, girl when I tackle people.”
Goldberg, who is known for his brash style inside the ring, didn’t hold back his words here either. At 285lbs, the former WCW Champion looks like an absolute monster when delivers the spear. One only has to look at his brutal spear to Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series, when he slayed “The Beast” 85 seconds, to see what Goldberg may be talking about.

However, it is also important to put the safety of your in-ring opponent first and it may have been Reigns’ perspective.
Roman Reigns beat Goldberg in WWE at the Elimination Chamber event earlier this year. But now, after this war of words, it will be interesting to see if WWE will revisit the feud following these harsh comments by Goldberg.
