Last year, the developmental brand of WWE – NXT went through many changes. They changed the black and gold brand of WWE into NXT 2.0 with a new logo that had NXT written in multiple colors. Many NXT superstars left WWE and some of them joined the main roster on RAW and SmackDown.
Recently, on the latest NXT 2.0 episode, there was a segment that made fans go crazy. It was a kissing segment between Duke Hudson and Persia Pirotta. They shared the parts of the segment on the Instagram account of NXT 2.0. They simply kept an emoji as the caption, “😮”.
Indie Hartwell commented on the post saying, “Really”. Her comment was followed by Duke Hudson saying, “I love this for me.”

The NXT segment was Indie Hartwell, caught Persia and Duke kissing in the locker room area. Hartwell then had a talk with Duke, which eventually made Dexter Lumis sad.

This segment shocked fans, and they shared their emotions in the comments. They mostly showed segments like this in the attitude era and the early ruthless aggression era. A couple of fans in the comment box wrote, “I don’t even know if that’s pg”.
WWE occasionally shows segments where male and female superstars are making out or normally kissing. But many fans particularly ranked this segment as a memory of the attitude era. Back in the late 90s, WWE grew at an incredibly fast rate and one reason behind that was because some parts of the weekly shows were edgier content like this.
Is WWE planning to shift NXT 2.0 to edgier content?
The black and gold version of NXT gave the WWE fans a taste of WWE added with some independent style of wrestling. Fans loved it and there was a time when NXT was hot more than RAW and SmackDown.During this time, many main roster wrestlers came to NXT for a match and appearance.

NXT is the only WWE brand that has given us fans matches and segments of the attitude era caliber in modern times. Triple H was very particular about storylines, while the black and gold version was alive.
When Vince McMahon took charge of the yellow rebranding, it was reported that the CEO of WWE was ready to show some edgier and loose content. He wanted the new version to have altered in-ring styles towards more aggression, and harsher language utilized in promos.

With, the segment on the latest NXT 2.0 episode fans can say WWE is trying to shift its course towards much loosen content within the limits that WWE can. Their major target audience is the 18-34 demographic.
