Samoa Joe debuted on the main roster in 2017, the year Chris Jericho left WWE to go to New Japan. Fortune struck the WWE Universe that they witnessed Samoa Joe vs Chris Jericho in WWE before the latter left for greener pastures. However, Jericho did not like the match at all.
In an interview with the New York Post, Jericho talked about AEW potentially signing Samoa Joe and their one match on Raw in 2017.
“Obviously, the one name that stands out as an established main-event heavyweight champion guy is Samoa Joe. Those guys have three months before they can go anywhere. But I’d love to see Joe in an AEW ring at some point. That’s another dream match if you want to go there.”
“I’ve never. I think we had one little, three-minute sh***y little match on Raw and it was just kind of thrown away. And I didn’t want to do it because I said this is a pay-per-view match, but that’s the WWE style. I think Joe and Jericho, Joe and Omega, Joe with Cody, Joe with put name here is a money match.”
Jericho and Joe faced each other twice on Raw, with the first match ending in a disappointing count-out. Their second match was a nine-minute sprint with Joe putting Jericho to sleep with the Coquina Clutch.

With Kenny Omega looking unbeatable, AEW could look at Joe as a potential challenger for the AEW Title. Seeing Omega and Joe go to war is fascinating enough, but seeing him choke out Omega to win the title would be a sight to behold. Other matches include Joe vs Moxley, Joe vs Cody, and of course, Joe vs Eddie Kingston in a promo battle.
