Dominik Mysterio is arguably one of the most hated WWE superstars today. His heel persona is so detested that the WWE Universe refuses to listen to him whenever he tries to cut a promo. Dirty Dom usually gets the loudest boos in the WWE. The fact that he is so hated only goes to show that he is very good at his job. 

Dominik Mysterio’s very first opponent, Seth Rollins, recently revealed that he always knew that the up-and-coming star would pick up major heel heat going forward in his career. And it turns out that ‘The Visionary’ was right. 

Seth Rollins has a vision that Dominik Mysterio will become a major heel in WWE

Dominik Mysterio wrestled his first match against Seth Rollins in 2020, in which he was annihilated by the latter. Although Dom Dom had no chance against Rollins, he impressed the fans with his performance. But Dom, as a babyface, could not elicit a positive reaction from the fans. As he is the son of WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio, he was frequently regarded as someone who was handed his opportunity. 

However, turning heel and joining The Judgement Day was a pivotal point in his career. While speaking on the Impaulsive podcast, Seth Rollins relayed that he knew all along that Dominik would make one of the most loathed heels in the business. Rollins recalled telling WWE producer, Hurricane Helms, that it makes sense for Dominik to be a heel, as he is not built to be a babyface.

He said, “I was sitting in a live event not long ago and he [Dominik Mysterio] was getting booed just out of the building and one of our producers, Hurricane Helms, was sitting there with me and he’s like, ‘If you would’ve told me six months ago he’s gonna be a top heel in the business, would you believe it?’ And I was like, ‘Yes.’ That’s the visionary part. I could see this coming… because he’s not built to be a babyface,”

According to Rollins, the fans would have eventually turned on him because he is Rey Mysterio’s son. Dom has major shoes to fill, considering how legendary his father’s career is. And because of that, he would be judged and criticized often, as a babyface. Rollins added, “He’s Rey Mysterio’s kid. Same thing, people think he’s getting handed everything, being Rey’s kid and it’s so easy to wanna hate nepotistic jerks, right? 

Nevertheless, Dominik’s heel turn gentrified his on-screen character. The 26-year-old star shocked the WWE Universe after betraying Edge and Rey Mysterio at Clash at the Castle last year. He went on to have a memorable WrestleMania match against his father earlier this year.

Recently, Dominik Mysterio finally won his first singles Championship in WWE on NXT. 

Dominik Mysterio is the new NXT North American Champion

Last week on NXT, Dominik Mysterio challenged Wes Lee for the NXT North American Championship. The showdown took place on the latest edition of NXT. As expected, Dom Dom was well-protected by his fellow Judgement Day members. 

During the closing moments of the match, Finn Balor distracted the referee. Meanwhile, Damien Priest tried to attack Wes Lee with the MITB briefcase. However, Priest was the recipient of the cardiac kick. The distraction allowed Rhea Ripley to smash her Women’s title in the face of Wes Lee, allowing Dom to pick up the pieces. 

Ultimately, Dominik pinned the longest-reigning NXT North American Champion. Surprisingly, his win was rejoiced by some fans. We will have to wait and see if Wes Lee exercises his rematch clause at NXT’s The Great American Bash.
