There is no doubt that Hulk Hogan is one of the top baby faces in WWE’s history and he reigned over the 80s wrestling world with Hulkamania running wild. Hogan’s name was enough to fill the arena wherever WWE went to host a show.
It is no secret that The Hulkster had backstage authority during all his runs with WWE and his time with WCW as well. He also had creative control over the matches and feuds he was a part of.

Recently, Jim Ross had a special co-host on his Grilling Jr. podcast. Former WCW President Eric Bischoff was the co-host of Ross in the recent episode, which was dedicated to the WWE career of Hulk Hogan. Ross shed a light on the backstage reaction about returning Hogan defeating Yokozuna at WrestleMania 9.
Ross said, “Yoko was such a likable guy and guys were so happy he got his break as the top heel in the territory. With his gimmick, he was very marketable – his size, his nationality, and how he was positioned. For Hogan to come in and destroy a guy that was seemingly unbeatable was how it was, and it certainly drove a wedge between Hulk and some of the other guys.”
He added, “Not that Hogan hadn’t been in that same position on many occasions. It didn’t break him or slow him down, but there was some pushback there for that whole deal. A lot of meetings, a lot of changes.”
The current AEW commentator told Bischoff he also didn’t like the creative decision at the time. However, Ross said he was at the event to call the match and waited till the creative team handed him the decision. He was of the opinion he would call anything that is planned whatever the outcome was.
