Hulk Hogan is one of the few people who’s credited for making pro wrestling a global sensation. The Hulkster ruled the hearts of many with his pro-American clean-cut baby face gimmick during his prime. He was also the poster boy of WWE’s Golden Era, which saw him have his 1,474-day title run. Needless to say, the 69-year-old understands the business. Recently, Hogan mentioned a 42-year-old who shares a similar trait. The WWE icon chose to look past other generational talents, like Dwayne Johnson.

Hogan said it during his interaction with Hollywood actor and comic Theo Von. Do you know who Hogan’s choice is?

Have you been able to guess Hulk Hogan’s choice based on the clues? It’s none other than The Miz. The eight-time WWE Intercontinental Champion is having a rough 2023, managing to win just one bout. He has been threatened, beaten, and humiliated over and over again. But that didn’t stop the 12-time World Champion from praising The Awesome One.

If you’re confused about why, well, that is how pro wrestling works. There are times when a wrestler has to lose to put other talents over. The Miz has been doing that job for a long time. “…that brother is keeping this art form alive,” he told Von, who is also friends with the superstar.

“He understands this business a lot more than most of the guys do,” The Immortal One added. He said that there are not more than 2-3 people who get the business and The Miz is one of them.

Strangely enough, Hogan chose to not name the others, like John Cena or Dwayne Johnson, who have had a significant impact not only in WWE but the pro wrestling business in general.

Hulk Hogan recalls WrestleMania 18, Dwayne Johnson’s role in the iconic match

WrestleMania 18 was a big lesson for the pro wrestling world as Hulk Hogan and The Rock clashed. Hogan had just made his comeback to the WWE that year. His opponent was at the pinnacle of stardom as a baby face. Meanwhile, instead of his iconic red and yellow, Hogan donned black, which formed his signature Hollywood Hogan gimmick.

The booking was done accordingly, with Johnson as the face and Hogan as the heel. WWE anticipated the crowd to boo Hogan. But shortly after the match, the crowd started to cheer for him. Understanding the sentiment, both the legends changed the script and performed in accordance with the crowd’s reaction.

While Johnson won, he showed respect at the end of the match and even helped Hogan after the latter was attacked by his nWo members. Hogan praised The Great One for having the wrestler’s instinct and thinking on the go with him.
