Back in 1994, Vince McMahon was under trial for supplying illegal anabolic steroids to his professional wrestlers. One of those wrestlers was Hulk Hogan, whom everyone accused of taking steroids from Mr.McMahon. 

While the trial was ongoing, The Hulkster had already jumped ship to WCW. However, he came to the court for his testimony, which shocked many at the time.

The New York Times shared the digitalized version of “Hulk Hogan, on Witness Stand, Tells of Steroid Use in Wrestling” from July 15, 1994 newspaper, on their website. The WWE legend shared his side of the story and claimed he never took steroids from Vince McMahon.

The New York Times mentioned Hogan’s testimony, “He also said that Mr. McMahon never ordered him to take steroids and never purchased any steroids for him.” 

The 12-time world champion stated he didn’t just take steroids for bodybuilding. He admitted taking anabolic steroids “to heal injuries, to keep on going,” which he stopped later sometime prior to leaving WWE. He added, “I believed it was legal because I had a prescription for it”

Furthermore, Hogan also shared how the WWE superstars used to get the super serum. when the steroid orders arrived at Titan Sports headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, he would “pick them up along with my paycheck, fan mail or whatever.”

Dr. George Zahorian was a doctor from Pennsylvania who was found guilty in 1991 for supplying anabolic steroids illegally. He worked as a ringside WWE doctor for a long time. Furthermore, at Zahorian’s trial, it was revealed that he supplied anabolic steroids to the WWE superstars, especially to Vince McMahon.

 

Therefore, Vince McMahon was also inspected after that, and the case went to court. Nevertheless, the jury found Vinnie-Mac non-guilty, and he was back to business, i.e. handling WWE.

Why Hulk Hogan used steroids in his initial days before becoming a wrestler?

When we picture Hulk Hogan, a huge, muscular man wearing red and yellow flashes in front of our eyes. However, once Hogan shared about using steroids for becoming a muscular man.

Hogan said to Los Angeles Times, “That was a tremendous hit my career took. You have to understand the situation: Prior to 1966, steroids were legal. Growing up in the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s, there was a lot of peer pressure. Everybody was doing it. Me being at the top of my profession, they picked Hulk out and said, “You represent the whole world; you’re a role model.” 

He added, “But I got through it. A lot of people thought it was just Hulk doing it; now they realize the whole sports world in the ‘80s was doing it. I survived it and I’m going to be around for a while.”
