The pro wrestling industry in the 80s had a lot of cutthroat competition. WWE was just beginning to spread its wings and in doing so was entering territories that were dominated by other rival promotions. This obviously made the other promotions and more so the wrestlers of those promotions agitated as WWE was trying to put them out of business.
Hence the rivalry was very real, so much so that a wrestling legend once confronted WWE’s poster boy Hulk Hogan with a gun in his hand.

Back in the 80s, WWE was moving into new territories to further expand the business. On one such occasion, Vince McMahon along with his crew of wrestlers went to do a show in Kansas City.
But Kansas City was the territory of wrestling legend Harley Race who was the then NWA World Heavyweight Champion. So obviously WWE’s entry irked him and he wanted to create a nuisance for the promotion. So he reached the venue at two in the afternoon, totally inebriated, and lit the ring on fire. Moreover, word on the street was that Harley Race warned Hogan from coming into the arena or he would fatally hurt him. Despite this Hogan made it to the building where Race confronted him with a gun in his hand.
Speaking on Ric Flair’s WOOOOO! Nation podcast Hogan said, “I just come sliding back there, right before the main event, hoping I’d miss him. I’m sitting on the toilet, going number two and I had my pants down, and Davey Boy Smith goes, ‘Harley’s here! Harley’s here! Harley’s here!’
He continued, “I pulled my pants up, but didn’t wipe my rear end, just blowing out of the bathroom to find him, and he was standing right there with a gun in his hand going, ‘I came here to blow your damn kneecaps off, but I’d rather work with you guys.’ He scared the hell out of me.”
Thankfully for Hogan, the issue was resolved as Race was able to reason and wanted to do business. But this wasn’t the only time a wrestler pulled a gun on another star.
‘The Ugandan Giant’ Kamala once went up to André the Giant with his .357 Magnum
For people who don’t know, Kamala was a wrestler who was 6ft 7 inches tall and weighed around 380 pounds having a tribal gimmick in the 80s. The story goes back to 1983 when Kamala had his first match with Andre the Giant. The referee made a mistake and gave the wrong instructions to Kamala. This misunderstanding with Andre eventually escalated into a fistfight between the two giants.
