The concept of pro-wrestling is having have a babyface and a heel compete together and determine a solid winner. However, back in the days, it was all serious in the business. So serious that once legendary wrestler Harley Race pulled a gun on Hulk Hogan.

In the late 80s and the 90s, Vince McMahon and his team eliminated the idea of “territory wrestling” which was predominant for a long time in the industry, and introduce the audience to the business with media coverage forcing various talents to leave their territories and join Vince McMahon.

Race was an integral part of the wrestling business as he put on classic bouts throughout the 70s and 80s. At one point in his career, he even wrestled for Vince McMahon.

Harley Race nearly killed Hulk Hogan in the 80s

Speaking on the latest episode of his podcast, Something To Wrestle‘, the senior Vice President of WWE and former WWE writer, Bruce Prichard reflected on a story when Race pulled a gun on Hogan.

Back in the late 80s, Vince McMahon, alongside his crew, went to do a show in Kansas City, which was Harley’s territory. Now, Harley was reportedly mad at the company and Hogan because they invaded the territories and grabbed more money.

So before the show, Harley allegedly burned the ring down. However, WWF then put up a new ring. Seeing that the company was not going to stop, Race asked everyone about Hogan.

After realizing that the Hulkster was in the bathroom, Harley waited for Hogan to come out. And soon as he came out, Harly stuck a gun on Hogan’s belly.
