

Hulk Hogan is a very big and intimidating guy from a normal person’s perspective. But the man used his athletics and bodybuilding skills to make a name in wrestling. His charisma and reliability, paired with good booking, made him an enormous star in the industry. But during the promotional tour of the first WrestleMania, things were looking not-so-good for the Hulkster.

Riding a massive wave of fan outbursts, Hogan was on the poster for every then WWF promotional material. So it isn’t out of nowhere that Vince McMahon sent Hogan, along with his tag partner Mr. T to most TV shows for the promotion of this mega-event. Vince wanted all the eyes to be on the hottest PPV to come to wrestling, WrestleMania, but instead, they were on a mortified Hulk Hogan who had just choked a celebrity on live television.
How did Hulk Hogan come to choke TV’s most popular comedian, Richard Belzer?
The story is pretty simple. On their promotional tour for the first-ever WrestleMania, Hulk Hogan and Mr. T were hopping from one TV talk show to another. When appeared on the Hot Properties show which was hosted by Richard Belzer, a comedian and conspiracy theorist. The interview was going smoothly and Hogan was in kayfabe during that time.

So everything Hogan said was according to his character. Eat vitamins, pray regularly and Hulkamania is running wild. But the moment things went south was when Belzer wanted Hogan to practice some wrestling moves on him. Trying to entertain the fans with some real wrestling on his show, Belzer kept insisting even though Mr. T refused politely.

But the face Hogan indulged the comedian and started with a front chin lock. In mere seconds, the man was out cold and when Hogan let him go, his body just fell to the ground. Mr. T tried to save the situation, but Hogan’s mortified face just send shivers to the audience. When Belzer finally woke up, the show went to a commercial, and the comedian refused to continue the show.
