Hulk Hogan was a huge draw in the pro wrestling business in the 1980s. He wasn’t seen as the most technically gifted wrestler around. Surprisingly, a former WWE Champion didn’t have kind words for Hogan when it came to his wrestling ability while also accusing ‘The Hulkster’ of backstage politics.

WrestleMania IX will forever go down as an event where Hogan overshadowed not one but two WWE Champions in a matter of moments.

Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart was defending his WWE Championship against Yokozuna in the main event. Yokozuna would come out on top, only to have Hogan enter the arena and pin the new champion in a matter of seconds.

According to ‘The Hitman’, he lost the WWE Title to Yokozuna at WrestleMania 9 despite being promised a lengthy run with the belt.

The Hitman thinks he could’ve embarrassed Hulk Hogan in the ring

Bret Hart thinks the double title change at WrestleMania happened because of Hogan.

In an interview with ESPN, he also said that the reason fans never saw him wrestle Hogan in the aftermath was that Hogan knew Bret could embarrass him.

He explained, “I think Hulk Hogan knew that someone like me could embarrass him on the ring, or really take the edge off him from a fan perspective because he was so limited as a wrestler.”

The legend continued, “Hulk Hogan could never make another wrestler. And especially another wrestler that might end up being bigger than him. He couldn’t bear the thought of wrestling me and making me. So he completely buried the knife in me and made sure that he never worked with me.”

The events of WrestleMania IX left many fans aggrieved. From WWE’s perspective, they may have been looking to appease Hogan to ward off interest from WCW.

Hart is adamant that Hogan pressured WWE to put the title back on him. He says WWE went this route because they wanted to ward off the interest in ‘The Hulkster’ from WCW. He said they were afraid Hogan may jump ship.

Whatever the reason, Hart certainly believes that it took the spotlight away from him and Yokozuna. To him, this was another example of Hogan using his influence to get his way and keep his spot.
