As we all know, Austin Theory lost his United States Championship to Rey Mysterio on SmackDown last week. Theory was at the top of his game during Vince McMahon’s reign. But post his exit and under Triple H’s creative control, Theory’s career has been stuck. Weak storylines coupled with lackluster matches led to a decrease in the audience’s interest in him. Although he has wrestled in the most matches in 2023, 59 in total. That was not enough for Triple H to snatch the title from him and maybe it’s time for a change in character.

Just recently, Theory shared a story on Instagram talking about how he got hooked on WWE. He also mentioned his special love for the “hero” which is what WWE might be looking at in his second run.

Most of the wrestlers on the current roster have been fans of wrestling from a very young age. Seeing their favorite stars on TV and then mimicking their finishing moves with their younger siblings in the bedroom. And maybe one fine day, someone took them to a wrestling event, and that’s where their entire WWE dream began.

That’s exactly the story of Austin Theory. At the age of eight, Theory’s grandfather took him to a wrestling show where he was mesmerized by the wrestlers. He was drawn to ‘hero’ aka babyface which got him glued to his seat that night while his initial intention was to leave early.

In the emotional video posted on his Instagram story, he said, “Wrestling is everything to me. It’s what I have known since I was 8 years old. I just was so drawn to it, it was like real life superheroes. My first show, I remember going with my grandfather, I remember a guy coming out and being really scary to me. And I didn’t know if I wanted to be there or not, and then the next guy comes out and he’s like the hero and I was like, ‘wait I wanna see this.’”

Theory’s mother wanted him to become either a baseball or a basketball player but that night’s show changed his entire outlook about his future career. He added, “After that night I was completely hooked. My mom had me doing baseball and basketball, but once I saw wrestling at 8, I was done with that. Like I knew that this is all I care about.”
