Vince McMahon has been the driving force behind WWE for a long time. Even today, he is closely attached to the company and is always involved in storylines, matches, and building stars.
Naturally, having been around for so long, WWE employees always have many stories to share about the boss. One viral tale is when Vince tore his quads at Royal Rumble 2015.

Like every year before WrestleMania, Royal Rumble also occurred. The pay-per-view is one of the most important events because it sets up the main event of the biggest wrestling show of the year.
The Royal Rumble sees the participation of 30 men, and they fight it out until there’s one man left standing in the ring.
In 2005, John Cena was a rising star, and Batista was already hot with the fans. These two men were the final two men left standing in the ring.
Batista picked up Cena for a Batista bomb, but disaster struck. Both men went over the top rope together, and their feet hit the floor.
However, the story doesn’t end there. What happens next is so absurd that various people have talked about that incident over the years.
What happened after John Cena and Batista went over the rope?
Multiple people have confirmed that both men were not supposed to go over the top rope. The spot wasn’t planned and happened by mistake, but it was too late because Vince got furious over it.
Because of the rage he felt, McMahon went down to the ring himself to restart the match, but disaster struck again. Vince slipped inside the ring, his knees hit the hard surface, and he could not get up after that.
He overstretched, which led to both his quads snapping on live television. Vince couldn’t get up, so he sat down in the ring and instructed the officials to restart the match.
The competition restarted, and security escorted the WWE chairman backstage. In the end, Batista eliminated Cena to win the 2005 Royal Rumble match.
He went on to the main event of WrestleMania 21 against Triple H for the World Heavyweight Championship. Batista won the title that night.
Meanwhile, John Cena competed against JBL for the world title at WrestleMania 21. He beat JBL to become the WWE World Champion.
Funnily enough, everything worked out in the end except for Vince’s quads.

In 2020, the former WWE Head of security, James Tillis, recalled the incident with Andrew Thompson of Andrew Thompson Interviews. He served in the job for fifteen years, from 1996 to 2011.
James talked about Royal Rumble 2005 and how he helped Vince with the injury during the interview.
“When Mr. McMahon got injured once, and I had to take him back to one of his doctors the next day, and he had hurt both his legs.”
Tillis revealed that he had to take Vince to a doctor in another city, so he did.

“I had to take him on the plane, and we get onto this private jet, and I’m holding his leg, while somebody was trying to scoot a prop up under his leg, and somebody said something to me, and I turned to answer, dropped his leg,” James said.
He said, “He was like, ‘What the hell!!?’ And his wife was there, and I was like, ‘Oh my God!’ He looks at me and goes, ‘Are you kidding me!?’ That was probably one of the funniest things,”
Even Edge has talked about this story with Inside The Ropes and his version of events.

Bruce Prichard shared his version of events.
On his show ‘Something Else to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard,’ Prichard shared his version of the story with the host, Conrad Thompson.
Bruce started, “Oh boy… I’m backstage, I’m at the Gorilla position, Vince is also at the Gorilla position, and there’s a lot of what the hell just happened? We’re starting to have a discussion about what do we do?”
Prichard shared that no one backstage knew how to deal with the situation, whether to say that they had two winners or to figure it out on RAW the following night. Out of nowhere, Vince said to play his music, “Next thing you know, Vince is calling for his music.”

Referring to Vince in the ring, “He starts to get up, and he can’t get up. So, he’s sitting in the middle of the ring as he’s screaming for them to restart the match. But he can’t stand up, and he can’t get in their face, so he’s doing it from a seated position… All he knows is that his leg is on fire.”
After the boss returned to the gorilla, Prichard said everyone left Vince alone and cleared out because they knew he got hurt badly. People tried to help him too, but McMahon refused it and limped.
The former WWE writer told Conrad that he heard an earth-shattering yell as he tried to walk. It was Vince yelling because he tore his other quad.
