Even though he is a millionaire, the Boss of WWE had some matches. Let’s have an overview of his WWE career as Mr. McMahon, the Evil Boss character.

Wrestling Career of Mr. McMahon

Mr. McMahon started taking bumps in episodes of RAW. His first in-ring participation was in a “Corporate Rumble” on the January 1999 Raw as an unscheduled participant, but was eliminated by Chyna. Later he also won the 1999 Royal Rumble after eliminating Stone Cold Steve Austin.

The next month, Austin decided to put his title shot on the line against McMahon. This was the first official match of Vince McMahon, which was a cage match against Austin at In Your House: St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. However, he lost the match as The Big Show debuted and threw Austin out of the cage.

The second match of the Chairman was At King of the Ring. Vince and Shane defeated Austin in a handicap ladder match to regain 50% control of the WWF, which Linda and Stephanie McMahon had given to The Rattlesnake.

Vince Machon won the WWF Championship in 1999 against Triple H but vacated it, as he had signed a kayfabe Fully Loaded contract. He then faced Triple H again at Armageddon in 1999 in a No Holds Barred match, which he lost when Stephanie McMahon turned heel on him. After that, he went off the TV for a while.

Vince McMahon started having fewer matches after the year 2000. In late 2003, he had a brief feud with The Undertaker, culminating at Survivor Series when Mr. McMahon defeated The Deadman with the help of Kane.

In the year 2006, Mr. McMahon had a 3-on-2 handicap with DX. He partnered with Shane McMahon and then ECW Champion The Big Show. After this, the next major feud for Mr. McMahon was with Donald Trump in a Hair vs Hair match. However, both men picked a representative to fight instead of having a match themselves at WrestleMania 23.

Vince McMahon in 2007 turned his attention to the newly formed ECW. At Backlash, McMahon pinned Bobby Lashley in a 3-on-1 handicap match teaming up with his son Shane and Umaga to win the ECW World Championship. This was the birth of the infamous Durag Version of McMahon. He lost the title to Lashley in the same year.

The WWE chief then completely focused his attention on backstage duties. He had some matches against The Legacy and Bret Hart. His last match came this year at WrestleMania 38 against Pat McAfee. It was an impromptu match which he wrestled at 76 years old and won.

Why and how did Vince McMahon become a WWE character?

Vince McMahon wanted to follow in the footsteps of his father, Vince McMahon Sr. and entered the professional wrestling business. However, he wanted to become a wrestler, but his father never allowed for it, so Mr. McMahon joined as a WWE official.

McMahon made his debut as an in-ring announcer for the WWWF’s All-Star Wrestling. He later became the play-by-play commentator for television matches in 1971, a role he regularly maintained until November 1997.

Vince McMahon took ownership of WWWF and turned it into WWF in the 80s. He, however, portrayed himself as a commentator in the company back then. He started appearing as a character on WWE TV after the Montreal Screwjob as attitude era came.

The rod was hot due to the Montreal incident, and he became a character for the betterment of business. Vince McMahon was quickly established as a heel and portrayed as a gimmick of Evil Boss.

Vince McMahon tried hard on-screen to keep Stone Cold away from winning the WWE Title. However, every time The Rattlesnake outsmarted him, and would win the title. Also, he was a prominent part of the rivalry between The Rock and Stone Cold.
