Dwayne Johnson recently stirred the pot by talking about his forthcoming film, Black Adam. Despite usually being a fan favorite, DJ sometimes receives criticism for his comments as well. He received backlash for calling the DC Universe ‘The Black Adam Universe’ in a post.
His most recent tweet, in which he confessed to making a significant revelation about his upcoming movie, has now drawn the ire of fans. Speaking about his movie, The People’s Champ revealed that the original plan was to merge Shazam and Black Adam into one film, but he strived to have his own stand-alone movies for fans to enjoy.

Well, this is not the first time he’s disclosing this. Earlier, before the trailer launch, he revealed that the two origin stories of Shazam! and Black Adam were supposed to be combined into one movie, but he later recognized that this wouldn’t work.
The Rock stated, “The original plan, maybe five or six years ago I think, was to tell the two origin stories of Shazam! and Black Adam in the same movie. That’s what we had worked on… the script was delivered. When we all read the script, I immediately felt like, ‘We have to separate these two movies.”
💯 true
Original script had both #BlackAdam #Shazam establishing their origin stories in one film. I fought hard for both characters (+ JSA) to have their own stand alone films for the fans to enjoy.
And protect Black Adam’s ruthless & extremely violent tone as we build out #DCEU https://t.co/KFrokn5Tjn— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) August 15, 2022
In a recent post, Johnson backed up his claim by noting that he has pushed hard to give both characters—along with the Justice Society of America—stand-alone movies for the fans to enjoy. Also, it will preserve Black Adam’s villainous tone when extending the DC Universe.
Recent criticism from fans on Dwayne Johnson’s tweet
Following this post, numerous fans responded negatively to Dwayne Johnson’s belief in social media. They blasted Black Adam, the former WWE Champion, for attempting to control the DCEU. One fan stated that the idea will not go well.
This movie is going to suck. DC needs a real reboot. The rock’s shtick is getting old. Yawn

Additionally, one user criticized DJ and claimed The Rock wants to dominate DCEU.
Dude. Black Adam isn't some MAIN CENTRAL VILLIAN ANTAGONIST OF THE DC UNIVERSE. he's literally ONE of Shazam villians. It would have been totally appropriate for for black Adam to be in the original Shazam film. Rock is being rock. doesn't wanna be black Adam. He wants to run DC.

Meanwhile, many fans believe they need to be combined into a single film.
this is dc not marvel not everyone needs an origin story

Who cares about Black Adam?
He only exists because of Shazam.
This sounds more like ego than anything else.
Make Shazam, then introduce Black Adam in Shazam II.

Terrible decision. Just wanted the movie all about you.
— Matt (@theUnitedCharge) August 15, 2022
I know it must have been hard for your massive ego to call it #DCEU instead of “Black Adam DC Universe”.
— Cheek (@CheekCrawler) August 15, 2022
It sounds more like ego and wanting to get paid for 3 movies instead of 1 and Cleary doesn't want to share the spotlight with Zachary Levy.

Fans disapprove saying that he wants two different films to dominate DC, as he famously declared it as the Black Adam Universe.

However, it will be intriguing to watch whether or not the decision will be in the movie’s favor and whether it will succeed like Shazam!.
