DCEU almost took a decade to confirm the Black Adam movie as an individual origin story project. They had offered the role to Dwayne Johnson in 2014 to appear as a villain in the 2016 film Shazam starring Zachary Levi.
However, DJ thought that the Black Adam’s introduction would be better in a solo movie. Therefore, he asked DCEU to change plans for the character, which took almost a decade to happen.

In a recent interview with Cinema Blend, Dwayne Johnson talked about what made him wait for almost a decade for Black Adam.
Johnson said, “I had a sense in my gut. I really had a strong feeling that there would be something really appealing about Black Adam to the world. If done right, there would be maybe a good amount of people who can see themselves in Black Adam, but then also man, if done right, we could really shake up the universe. We could really shake up the DC Universe.”

He added, “I get, you know the business very well in that for studio executives for those times to make investments, it’s easy to make those investments with IP that everybody knows and loves.”

He wanted to do something new and innovative with Black Adam by keeping it close to its origins as per comics. It seems, Johnson has successfully done it, as he is already getting the praise just by releasing several trailers and test screenings.
Dwayne Johnson is a DC boy!
While The Rock is playing Teth-Adam, he is also a fan of other known characters of DC. He loves Superman, mostly Henry Cavill’s version, Batman, Wonder Woman, Justice League, and many more. However, he thought there should be some new characters in Black Adam.
DJ said, “Yes, Black Adam, who I just personally was so invested in, but hold on let’s, you got the JSA sitting over here for decades and decades and decades. They predated the Justice League and no way do I want to step on Justice League.”
The Rock added, “I love the Justice League because I’m a DC boy from a punk little kid, I’m still a punk little kid. So I love DC, and I love Justice League but let’s expand this thing. Let’s introduce the JSA too as well.”

As The Great One said, there were several elements attached to making this dream project happen. Everyone was excited about this project since the time DC announced it in 2014.

However, DJ said, “Even then would they had a rollout for the next 4-5 years and Black Adam was at the end of that list. It’s easy to go alright. I’ll put it on the side, but I didn’t want to do that man. I truly felt like, ‘Hey, we have an opportunity here’. So here we are.”
