A year ago, while promoting The Jungle Cruise, Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, and Jack Whitehall sat down with BuzzFeed UK to read some of their best fan tweets. One of the tweets was, “It’s so embarrassing that no matter who I simp and how hard I stan(d) them, if Dwayne Johnson asked me to drop them I would in a heartbeat.”
After reading the comment, The Rock said, “These are out, these are the street terms. I’ll explain it to you later. Like standing is what you did to me when we first met.” Blunt replied, “Is that sort of like crushing on you?” Johnson added, “It’s like what you continue to do, more like stalking.”
Whitehall explained what simping is, to Blunt. He said, “And simping what we did whilst we were watching Mary Poppins.” The British actress replied, “I think it is, with a big heart.” DJ jokingly replied, “Or big something”.
Blunt didn’t want to do the movie initially because of her hectic schedule. Moreover, she ignored multiple video messages of DJ who was trying to convince her to be in the movie. This is what The Rock meant in the above quotes about making him stand.
Clearly, it seems Blunt understood what ‘simping’ is after Whitehall recalled the time they watched Mary Poppins. Moreover, Johnson would have surely explained to the British actress the modern street terms he talked about while answering.
