With his sheer hard work over the years, Dwayne Johnson has amassed a fortune. The same can be seen in his lavish purchases and flamboyant lifestyle. But that being said, The Rock continues to spend wisely and cautiously, sometimes if not all.
Johnson once recalled the first time he thought of splurging his money. Moreover, he later regretted this decision and has never spent money on unwanted things ever since.

A couple of years ago, Dwayne Johnson appeared on Oprah’s 2020 Vision Tour Visionaries: The Rock Interview. He shared with Oprah the time when splurged some of his money to buy something for himself while he was living in a rented apartment.
Johnson said, “The first thing I splurged on, when I was a kid, 14 years old, 13, 14 years old. In my mind, what it meant to be successful was a Rolex watch. So there was such a valuable lesson out of this. I thought for years, ‘Oh wait. Every successful man has a Rolex watch that has diamonds in it.’”
The Rock added, “So when I finally was making a little bit of money, and this was in 1999. I thought, ‘Okay.’ And this, by the way, I was still living in an apartment, paying monthly rent. But again… I was just renting. Horrible financial decision. This is what not to do. So I thought, ‘This is it. I’m gonna splurge.’ And I went and got myself a Rolex.”

As a kid, Johnson had set various parameters of being successful in this mind, which he, of course, achieved later. Owning a Rolex was one of them and another one was to have a great physique. However, the WWE legend was still renting an apartment and today regrets having purchased a Rolex watch at the time.
Dwayne Johnson broke the Rolex watch on WWE TV
Further, while talking about splurging his money on a Rolex watch, The Rock also shared what happened to it. He wore the watch on a WWE live show and a brawl broke out in the ring. One of the WWE superstars accidentally fell on his Rolex when it came off his hand.

Dwayne Johnson recalls being tensed and searching for his watch on LIVE TV while there was an ongoing brawl. Johnson wasn’t in character while his Rolex fell off his hands. However, he shared what happened after coming backstage.
The Tenth Adam actor said, “So I finally get my Rolex back, I go backstage and I look at it. I’m heartbroken now, this is my thing! And I go home that night, and I remember immediately thinking, ‘This is a sign, and I don’t need it,’ and it wasn’t right for me at that time. And I never got anything like that again.”

Furthermore, The Rock said he spends his money carefully and has only splurged on real estate in recent years. Not to mention, he purchased a few pickup trucks as well, which he loves to drive.
