“People Just Didn’t Take to Him”: Steve Austin Made a Massive Claim on Dwayne Johnson Even Before The Rock Called Their Rivalry the Greatest WWE Box-Office Draw of All-Time

WWE has showcased numerous feuds over the year, which made a buzz in the wrestling world. One iconic feud that is still talked about by the fans is Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson vs Stone Cold Steve Austin.

The WWE legends literally gave everything to put on a great show and bring the best out of each other. However, once, The Texas Rattlesnake praised The Rock, a year before DJ said great things about Austin.

In 2019, Stone Cold Steve Austin appeared on First We Feast’s interview called Hot Ones. The WWE Hall of Famer had noble words about Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson when asked about who had excellent mic skills apart from Austin during the Attitude Era.

The Rattlesnake said, “You cannot overlook The Rock. When he first arrived on the scene, he was this good-looking, third-generation babyface and people just didn’t take to him. They’d say, ‘Die Rocky Die! Die Rocky Die! Then (WWE) put him (in the) Nation of Domination where he ascended to the top of that organization. Then He started wearing the silk shirts and he started referring to himself in (the) third person and working that eyebrow.” 

Austin added, “And he electrified and captivated crowds with his catchphrases, his cadence and his delivery, and his message and calling everybody ‘jabroni, knowing your role. So yes, I was an outstanding promo in my own right and had my own style but The Rock commanded the audience’s respect, attention and elicited the response that he was looking for from them.”

After working with each other for so long, The Rock and Austin clearly respect each other. Johnson joined WWE after The Rattlesnake, so Austin saw the entire journey of DJ in the company coming to the top from ground zero.

A year after The Rattlesnake heaped praise on The Rock, Dwayne Johnson also shared his thoughts on the Texan icon. In 2020, while answering a fan question about the feeling of facing off three WrestleManias against Austin. 

The Great One shared a video on Instagram in which he praised Austin. He thanked Stone Cold for giving him an opportunity to shine in his career. Moreover, he recalled the conversation in the ring he had with Austin after beating him at WrestleMania 19.

Johnson said, “It was an honor to be the biggest box-office draw in the world of professional wrestling. I don’t have a beer, I don’t have a tequila right now, but I toast to you. Thank you brother, I love you two times for the good times.”

There are always fewer words to talk about this legendary rivalry. Whenever there is something about The Rock and Austin, the wrestling universe would be tuned in to listen. No doubt they are one of the biggest draws in the history of WWE. Even after having the last match 20+ years ago, their match highlights still draw huge ratings for WWE.
