Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Black Adam is going to release in theatres this year. But fans could have seen Johnson playing the role of Black Adam a few years ago had it not been for Dwayne Johnson himself.
In 2019, The Rock could have appeared as Black Adam in Shazam!, a superhero film. However, the former WWE Champion had other plans. As per reports, he might soon become an official “advisor” to the new vision of DC comic book adaptations. But a few years ago, before Shazam! got released, Johnson showed signs of dictating storylines for DC.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson wanted a separate film for Black Adam as he did not want to have two origin stories in Shazam!. The Brahma Bull thought it would have an “incredible disservice” to Black Adam.

Recently, in an interview with Vanity Fair, The Rock himself admitted all these. He said, “When the first draft of the movie came to us, it was a combination of Black Adam and Shazam: Two origin stories in one movie. But when I read that, I just knew in my gut, ‘We can’t make this movie like this. We would be doing Black Adam an incredible disservice.’ It would’ve been fine for Shazam having two origin stories converge in one movie, but not good for Black Adam.”
Later, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made a phone call and suggested the idea of having a separate film for Black Adam even though everyone thought the script is great. The Brahma Bull noted, “I said, ‘I really think that you should make Shazam!, make that movie on its own in the tone that you want. And I think we should separate this as well.”
