At the 2021 Royal Rumble, Christian made an emotional return to the WWE. Captain Charisma wrestled for the first time since 2014, not to mention the Unsanctioned match with Randy Orton in June 2020. His comeback mimicked the return of Edge in last year’s Royal Rumble, and he will also have a last run in the company.

In a backstage interview, post his Rumble match exploits, Christian said all he ever promised was one match, and the Rumble match could be it. With a wry smile on his face, the former World Champion scampered out of the interview, leaving the WWE Universe confused and excited.
PWInsider reported Christian will adhere to a part-time schedule. It also mentioned that his return was pre-meditated, which means he began training for the match, and a potential run after the Rumble. WWE more or less confirmed the news on their Instagram page.
WWE’s post featured the legend with every major championship he’s won in the WWE. The caption also stated, “based on his stunning Royal Rumble return, he’s not finished yet. What’s next for Captain Charisma?” WWE more or less confirmed that Christian might have one last run in him, and speculation began about potential rivalries and dream matches.
Dream matches for Captain Charisma
Christian has put on some incredible matches in his lengthy career. From tag team classics in the Attitude Era, to his brilliant series with Randy Orton in 2011. Christian has faced the best and brought the best out of them. For his last run, he deserves an opponent of similar stature.
He could ideally renew hostilities with the Viper. Orton desperately needs to move on from the feud with Alexa Bliss and The Fiend. A well set-up feud with Christian would be monumental for both men, and for the WWE. If Randy Orton is occupied, AJ Styles would be a damn fine opponent for the Canadian.

The most ideal opponent for Captain Charisma is neither Styles nor Orton, but the Intercontinental Champion. In 2014, Christian won a fatal four-way match and won a chance to face Big E for his Intercontinental Championship. Unfortunately, the match never happened at WrestleMania, and WWE placed both men in the pre-show Battle Royal.

A match with Big E would boost the current IC Champion’s value and give him a credible opponent for WrestleMania. Some might frown at the prospect of a part-timer fighting for a title. However, the nostalgia will overcome any derision fans might have.
