One of the greatest rivalries in wrestling was between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Dwayne ”The Rock” Johnson. Not only did Steve Austin and Dwayne Johnson go in completely different directions after their rivalry. More than anything, it changed both of their lives. While Johnson left behind his wrestling career and focus entirely on Hollywood, Austin took a much-needed break.

The Rock and Stone Cold were two of the hottest characters in the pro wrestling world and they left a sizable chunk in the hearts of fan when they both decided to leave. While Austin left the wrestling ring in 2005 with all the admiration in the world, things were different from Johnson.

Austin and Johnson had their last match at WrestleMania XIX and everyone knew Austin was going to leave. So, he put on one hell of a performance and won the people’s cheer while The People’s Champion won the match.

But after this, The Great One would make less and fewer appearances in WWE. This would lead to his last match with the company in the 2000s when he faced off against Evolution with Mick Foley by his side. While fans got a Rock ‘n’ Sock Connection revival, Johnson leaving WWE after that was not what the fans expected. Johnson left WWE and became the biggest movie star in the next decade.

In the newest episode of WWE Rivals, the superstars discuss the rivalry between Steve Austin and Dwayne Johnson. While talking about Austin’s popularity, Johnson said, “Stone Cold’s popularity got to a point where you had to experience it. And we were chatty, but at the same time, there was never animosity but competition. And at that time he had a stack of 8 x 10s. He’s signing away and I remember he had jokingly signed a picture to me.

The picture read, “Hey Rock, you might make it one day, keep working hard. Stone Cold Steve Austin Number 1,” The Rock continued, “And I thought, oh he’s f***ing around with me. But then I look and realize that’s how he signed his autograph. Stone Cold Steve Austin Number 1.
