Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has one more position to add to his collection of titles: a member of the board of directors of TKO Group Holdings. The company, which brought the WWE and the UFC together, revealed the news in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Tuesday. And Johnson will take office immediately.

However, before embarking on this new journey, the ‘People’s Champ’ felt thankful for all the love and support he had received so far. He made sure to convey his gratitude to his fans via a tweet. One that even Netflix couldn’t help but comment on.

Netflix shows their support in style

Dwayne Johnson has always been very vocal on social media when it comes to showing his support for a good cause or initiative. The Hollywood star also regularly indulges in showering his fans with due to the adulation he receives from them. And today was one such day. Taking to Twitter, the 51-year-old stated his gratitude and emphasized his willingness to help TKO build a stronger brand. The tweet read, “Good day of big business. Grateful and motivated to help continue to build our brands. Now the fun part, we go to work. @WWE @UFC @TKOGrp @netflix #peopleschamp (thanks to everyone for all the awesome support)”

Netflix recently signed a 10-year deal worth over $5 billion with the biggest pro wrestling promotion in the world. Thus, making it the new home of WWE RAW. In fact, it will also own the rights to WWE’s award-winning documentaries, original series, and forthcoming projects internationally. With a bond that’s bound to get stronger, the streaming platform responded to the ‘Brahma Bull’ in their own quirky way. Making a reference to the Rock’s iconic catchphrase, they tweeted, “The Rock…he’s cooking.”

Nevertheless, both Netflix and Johnson will be happy to collaborate together for mutual benefits. But what exactly does The Rock’s responsibilities entail? Let’s explore this topic further.

Details on the Rock’s TKO deal

As part of the TKO deal, Johnson will officially own the name “The Rock” and its affiliated intellectual property. This has been something that WWE had legally owned until now. The nickname “The Rock” comes from his father, Rocky Johnson, a WWE Hall of Fame wrestler. In the new role, Johnson is expected to “provide WWE with certain promotional and other services”. Employing the services of Hollywood’s biggest actor comes at a price and Netflix was happy to oblige.

He will be awarded approximately $30 million via stock benefits over the next two years. The Hollywood star will also continue to receive royalties from WWE for sales of any licensed merchandise that uses ‘The Rock’s’ intellectual property or Johnson’s name and likeness.

The executive chairman of TKO’s board, Vince McMahon, appreciated the move of bringing the Rock to the table as he said, “Very few people on the planet understand the convergence between sports, entertainment, media, and business like The Rock. We are proud to have him join TKO’s board to help take our company to new heights.” WWE COO Triple H too welcomed the ‘Brahma Bull’ to the team as he tweeted, “An incredibly exciting day for our business. @TKOGrp continues to grow bigger and better every day. Welcome to the team, @TheRock.”
