“He’s Been There Since Day One For Me” : AEW Superstar Lauds Randy Orton

AEW Superstar Matt Sydal was previously known as Evan Bourne in WWE. Although he never won a world title, he worked with some big names and was known for his high-flying moves. Recently, while remembering his WWE days, he spoke about his work experience with Randy Orton.

Sydal reveals in a Wrestling Inc interview, “We remember him sitting up there watching the show. He’s sort of kind of been there since day one for me.”

Sydal and Orton go way back in their wrestling journey. They are both from the same city. Randy’s father Cowboy Bob Orton was the Missouri State Athletic Commissioner. So The Viper used to come to those small shows.

Despite the praises, Randy Orton is widely known for being the “backstage poison.” Rumor has it he hardly mingles with the locker room and is hard to communicate to. However, Matt has a different experience.

‘I really liked working with him, I always thought that there was even more potential to Randy than had been unleashed,” Sydal stated. “I think a lot of people are intimidated wrestling him. Even like guys like The Miz were a little intimidated wrestling Randy, kind of almost afraid of him, and I didn’t really have that because he was always kind and generous with me.”

He and Orton went head to head on a match. The former tag-team champion was hit with an RKO out of nowhere when Sydal had attempted a shooting star press on Orton. They both planned and executed the moves perfectly.

Even after the shows, Randy Orton even invited Sydal to the movies with the other locker room guys. Sydal was extremely impressed with Orton’s generosity.

“I think, towards fans or whatever, especially early on in young in his life there was some some issues, but really the way he treated the other wrestlers was very respectful and always was trying to like invite me. ‘Hey, come to the movies. All the guys are going to the movies on Sunday. Let’s all go out to eat.’ Where, for some reason, he had a reputation as kind of being like egotistical, hard guy, I always found it to be just opposite.”

Thankfully, Randy Orton is not so nice on TV. The ‘Legend Killer’ is ready to face Drew McIntyre in WWE Clash of Champions 2020 for the WWE title. Matt, on the other hand, is currently signed to AEW after wrestling in various promotions.
