Let’s admit it, John Cena’s WWE gimmick once strongly resonated with the troops. After the multi-time WWE Champion starred in The Marine, the salute became a staple of his gimmick. Over the years, John Cena has represented many things. He has been a superhero for children. After all, he set the world record for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, having granted over 650 wishes.
But most importantly. John Cena has represented the armed forces of The United States of America. The WWE Icon-turned-Hollywood actor never misses a chance to pay tribute to the US military. That said, a notable film director once had an interesting take on John Cena, associating him with the Stars and Stripes.

Believe it or not, the film director, Kay Cannon, knew little about Cena’s WWE career. But what spurred her to cast John Cena in her film? It was Cena’s performance in other comedy films, like Trainwreck, that got her interested in him. She was also impressed with the sixteen-time World Champions’ hosting of the Epsys.
In addition, John Cena’s work in the “We Are America” PSA galvanized Cannon to consider him for the role. Kay Cannon, who enjoys working with undiscovered talents, also admired John Cena’s work in WWE’s reality TV show, Total Divas. According to Los Angeles Times, she associated John Cena with The American flag. She further stated that Cena connects with the masses.
She said, “I feel like he’s America wrapped up in a flag. Everybody connects to him, from all walks of life.”
Interestingly, Cannon did not even have to be a WWE fan to know what John Cena was at his core; a staunch patriot of his country. His devotion to his country has often piqued the curiosity of fans, who wonder if he was ever in the military.
Nonetheless, Kay Cannon once praised John Cena for his famous butt chug scene in Blockers.
