In a move that surprised many in the industry, RAW Executive Director Paul Heyman has been relieved of his duties on Monday Night RAW. He will no longer work in an executive capacity, and will only be in-ring talent from now on.

Heyman was in charge of handling talent, storylines, promotions, and creative work on Monday Night RAW. He has now been let go, citing clashes with Vince McMahon.

WWE’s official reason for firing Paul Heyman is that they were “consolidating both teams from RAW and SmackDown into one group”.

What this essentially means is that the current executive director on SmackDown, Bruce Prichard, will now be at the helm of both brands on television.

Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman had been brought in as directors for RAW and SmackDown. With the recent firing, both have now been replaced.

Trouble in WWE Offices with Paul Heyman?

Heyman has gone on record stating that his vision for RAW was hampered since he had to do his job and keep McMahon happy at the same time.

Vince is famous for his fickle nature, in terms of decisions that would affect the company in big ways. When trying to make a man like that happy, it was probably very difficult for Heyman to do his job well.

Another reason why Heyman might have been fired is the decline in ratings. RAW used to be a powerhouse, home to the best talent in the business. But a number of stars have been absent from regularly scheduled programming lately.

This may be due to precautions against the pandemic, which is why Sami Zayn had his title vacated.

It may also be due to more personal reasons, like Becky Lynch and Roman Reigns. Lynch left RAW to deal with her pregnancy, and Reigns left to take care of his newborn kids.

The absence of the stars in WWE has led to a general decline in ratings. Monday Night RAW has been hit the hardest because of it.

RAW has been struggling to stay above required ratings since after WrestleMania 36. This would in fact explain why Heyman was let go in such a sudden manner.

Heyman will still be a part of the WWE, as an in-ring talent. He will continue as Brock Lesnar’s advocate, presumably for the Beast Incarnate’s return.
