Paul Heyman is currently having one of the best times in WWE as ‘The Special Counsel’ of The Bloodline. The former manager/advocate of Brock Lesnar has been with WWE for more than a decade in his current stint. Managers in pro wrestling tend to have short careers if they don’t evolve. A similar thing almost happened with Heyman, but he claims Vince McMahon saved him from being a victim of the same. The Wise Man credited McMahon by bringing up Roman Reigns. 

Paul Heyman credits Vince McMahon over Roman Reigns

Recently, Paul Heyman appeared on the Tetragrammaton with Rick Rubin where he credited Vince McMahon for his renewed run in WWE. As per the 57-year-old WWE legend, The Bloodline arc is present in WWE because Vince McMahon pulled the trigger on it.

Heyman said, “So Vince calls me in the middle of August and he says, ‘We’re gonna take you back into television. I’m thinking, ‘Oh, oh. He’s gonna make me a commentator and Jim Ross isn’t here…. What is a commentator in 2020?”

He added, “I’m thinking Ronda is pregnant. Brock is not coming back with Saudi down. He’s certainly is not putting me with Roman and he goes, ‘I’m envisioning Roman Reigns with Paul Heyman.’ I’m thinking, ‘Oh my God. He’s gonna pull the trigger on this. He would never pull it with Cena. He would never have allowed Cena to come to the dark side.”

It was surprising to see Paul Heyman appear with ‘The Tribal Chief’ after Reigns returned. Fans have wanted to see ‘The Big Dog’ turn heel, and it happened but with the addition of The Special Counsel. 

Surely, McMahon’s this decision turned fruitful as The Bloodline story is still making fans go bonkers. Moreover, Reigns is now the world champion for 1000+ days and Heyman is on his side since day one. He is surely enjoying this run and why not? Reigns was always one of the WWE stars he wanted to manage with the other two notable superstars.

Paul Heyman wanted to manage only specific stars

Back in 2020, Heyman’s contract was too going to end soon. Moreover, his contract stated he could be paired up with limited WWE superstars only. The Wise Man had managed several stars over the years, but in his last contract, he states with whom he can work.

The 57-year-old said, “One of the few names on this list was Roman Reigns. Another was Brock Lesnar, obviously. Another was Ronda Rousey.”

Furthermore, the former ECW CEO shared why McMahon paired him with The Head of the Table. As Rousey was pregnant and Lesnar wasn’t returning until Saudi Arabia shows started, hence, “that kinda left Roman Reigns in there.”
