Regarding tattoos in the WWE, the women’s division is often overlooked. Their male counterparts are covered in tattoos. However, one name among women wrestlers always stands out: Rhea Ripley. While demonstrating why she is among the strongest in her division, she also loves to showcase her skin art. But what are the meanings behind her tattoos?

Ahead of her highly anticipated match at Crown Jewel 2023, let’s dive into the world of Ripley’s tattoos.

When Ripley joined NXT, she didn’t have as many tattoos as she has today. Now, in 2023, she has a total of 20 tattoos over her body. These range from personal ones to tributes to the things she loves. Ripley’s body is her canvas and, at times, a book of her personality. Ripley has said that she wanted tattoos ever since she was a kid.

One of the most overlooked tattoos she’s had is on her arm. This is a matching tattoo she got with her NXT frenemy, Toni Storm. Ripley beat Storm in a tournament to become the inaugural NXT UK Women’s Champion. The two are, in reality, really close.

Two of her most visible tattoos are personal ones. The first is a dagger on her arm, which symbolizes trust issues. The other is on her calf, which depicts a rose, woman, and wolf. Despite not telling what the tattoos mean, this is often a personal, self-growth tattoo people get.

The most striking one is also on her leg, a demonic face tattoo. This could be mistaken for a satanic symbol. However, this is because of her love of heavy metal bands. Ripley has stated in interviews that she loved the band Papa Roach and did the opening for RAW. Despite having so many, the WWE hasn’t always been kind to her love for skin ink.

WWE’s objection to Rhea Ripley’s tattoos

In the Aggression Era and Attitude Era, having tattoos wasn’t an issue. However, since the WWE went PG, there are rules for the kinds of tattoos stars can get and show on television. This has sometimes hindered Ripley’s love for them. On many occasions, she was asked to wear long pants to cover them up.

Most recently, fans have noticed her fake tattoos. This could be in revolt against the WWE or her way of trying out something new before getting it permanently inked in her skin.
