A lot has happened in the WWE Universe since the 02/02 episode of SmackDown. On that particular episode, the WWE announced that Dwayne Johnson would be taking Cody Rhodes’ spot at WrestleMania 40. But thanks to the dedication of fans, WWE decided to change the storyline, and it has been confirmed by Triple H himself that Rhodes will face off against Roman Reigns. However, it is not just fans who are happy with this decision. WWE Hall of Famer, The Undertaker recently opened up about how he felt after it was revealed Johnson will be taking Rhodes’ spot.

The Undertaker is a Cody Rhodes fan

While he did not openly admit it, it looks like he is one with the fans when it comes to supporting Cody Rhodes in finishing his story. On the latest episode of his podcast, Six Feet Under with Mark Calaway, The Phenom talked about the infamous promo in which Johnson made his appearance. He said, “I want[ed] to hear Cody’s promo. It was great, so good & I was so invested. When he said ‘…just not at WrestleMania 40 ‘my freaking heart just sunk into my stomach because I knew at that moment what was about to happen.”

The former WWE Champion shared a mutual feeling with fans all over the world. As soon as the episode ended, fans started an online campaign to get Rhodes, his WrestleMania 40 spot back. The hashtag, “WeWantCody” trended for more than 72 hours. Apart from that, fans did everything in their control to get WWE’s attention and make them realize that they were not happy with the decision.

WWE did finally hear all the fans’ requests. On the WrestleMania 40 Kickoff Press Event, Rhodes declared that he would be coming for Roman Reigns at WrestleMania. Later on, at the 02/09 episode of SmackDown, Triple H confirmed the same.

While Johnson has sided with Roman Reigns, the Undertaker explained why WWE might have thought of going with the Samoan Stars.

Later, the 58-year-old star talked about the possible reason as to why WWE might have thought of pitting Johnson against Reigns. He believes that money-wise, it would have been a profitable decision. Everybody knows that the Anoa’i Family is one of the best in the ring and pitting two stars against each other would have been a commercially successful decision.

Those who were watching the press conference live, can remember that Johnson is now a heel. He had called Rhodes’ fans crybabies and had even slapped the American Nightmare.
