The Road to WrestleMania XL will go down in history for the change of plans that WWE carried out. The change came after the massive backlash generated by the inclusion of The Rock in the main event of the Show of Shows to the detriment of Cody Rhodes. Fans’ refusal to let the legend take the spot Rhodes had earned led to a 180-degree turn. This ended with The Rock’s heel turn and the confirmation of two main events that will feature Roman Reigns and “The American Nightmare.”

But do you know the story that went behind the inclusion of the Rock in the first place and the story behind the heel turn? Triple H recently revealed all there is to know in an interview with Logan Paul.

Triple H, WWE’s Chief Content Officer, has recently some light on the decision-making behind altering plans for WrestleMania 40 involving Cody Rhodes and The Rock. He claimed that while in the creative’s head, WrestleMania looked different. But superstars getting injured such as CM Punk led to last-minute changes. He also revealed that he and the Rock shot an angle before. But then the Rock’s schedule changed and they locked in on WrestleMania.

Some people thought that the Rock coming in and challenging Reigns, while Rhodes moved over, would be a great thing. Yet several believed it would not work. However, the initial plan to have Roman Reigns face off against The Rock in the main event was redirected. It was due to the huge fan support for Cody Rhodes. And also because the Rock wanted to play the heel and wanted a tag match.

Triple H said, “If you would’ve asked me two months earlier, ‘what do you think about Rock turning heel?’ I would have said he’ll never go for that, right? Because of his career and everything else, like him turning heel. But, you know, he was the one that was like, what if we flip this? What if we do the tag? What What we, what if I turn heel? As soon as he said it, I was like a thousand percent. This is the answer.”

He further added, “As soon as he said it, I was like a thousand percent. This is the answer. Yeah. And to be honest, like for me, I could feel like this puts a whole fresh coat of paint on everything you do. You’re not the Rock coming back in, giving me your greatest hits. And sort of, you know, but, but it’s half Dwayne, half Rock and like blurring that line of him. This is him coming in and full on playing a character. And they’ll get that, and they’ll know that. But you can go all the way, you know, down that road of being the bad guy.”

As a result, the revised card for the first night now features Rhodes with Seth Rollins against The Rock and Roman Reigns, while the second night will feature a one-on-one match between The American Nightmare and The Tribal Chief. However, this isn’t the only creative genius that Triple H is presenting to fans. As he just announced that he would be bringing back the WWE Draft.
