Legends make legends. This is something everyone in the WWE Universe knows. Now, if a legend comes out of retirement to help another, that’s a whole new story! But, this is the story of Randy Orton.
As many may remember, Orton had a brutal match against Mick Foley at Backlash 2004. There were thumbtacks, barbed wire bats, and whatnot. However, even after suffering at the hands of Foley, who wrestled as Cactus Jack, Orton thanked him.

During his conversation of Out of Character by Ryan Satin, Orton revealed his match against Foley is probably the best one he’s been in to this day.
“The one with Foley at Backlash 2004. Not just because I landed in thumbtacks. It’s what he was doing for me in that match. Like, he came out of retirement, allowed me to, you know, end the year, spitting in his face. I think it was the last Raw before the end of the year, something like that.. The new year’s chiming in and all the wrestling fans are talking about is how I disrespected Foley like that. He gave me so much. So that match because of what he did for me makes it mean even more than it does because I landed on thumbtacks.” H/t Out of Character
Orton and Foley’s rivalry started during the time when Randy Orton was going around as The Legend Killer. After being disrespected, Foley returned at Royal Rumble and took out Orton and himself. This is what sparked the rivalry which would shape one of the most talked about rivalries of that year.
