In the recent episode of the podcast ‘Insight with Chris Van Vliet’, the WWE Hall of Famer D-Von Dudley appeared as the special guest. There he unfolded the chapter from the book ‘Dudley Boyz’ that reveals the origin of their famous chant ‘What’s up?’.
D-Von revealed that it was completely Bubba Ray Dudley’s idea and he in fact hated it. He also mentioned that he never used to follow his partner for this chant until Vince McMahon came into play. Talking about the moment, the WWE legend said that they were competing at SmackDown when Vince McMahon abruptly came up.
He asked D-Von about the ‘What’s Up’ chant. The former WWE superstar reveals his hate towards it, but McMahon made him do that because he himself loved the chant. This left D-Von jaw-dropped as he was expecting the exact opposite from him.
Recalling the moment, D-Von said, “So he(Vince) came out one day and he snuck up behind me gave me a little shoulder tackle. He goes ‘okay cool tell me something D-Von, what is this thing where you go up on the top rope and somebody told me that you guys call it the what’s up’.
D-Von continued, “I said ‘Vince it’s the dumbest thing in the world. I hate it, I don’t like it I’m not doing it…… He goes ‘oh no you are gonna do the what’s up because I actually like it’ and I went that’s what I mean as I just said yeah what’s up I’m gonna do it exactly how you said it.”

This wasn’t the only time when a WWE superstar had admitted it. Former WWE superstar Heath Slater also revealed once that he had to apologize to the hard taskmaster for a minor change in his gimmick.
However, if we talk about D-Von’s case then things ended up on his side. Dudley Boyz’ signature ‘What’s Up?’ chant became a huge hit among fans just like ‘Yes’ and ‘You S*ck’ chants.
