Following his departure in 2016, Cody Rhodes came back to the WWE in 2022 at WrestleMania 38. The American Nightmare’s first assignment was an encounter with Seth Rollins, which he passed with flying colors. This also started a feud between the two superstars.

However, just shortly after his return, Rhodes suffered an injury, forcing him out of action for several months. It also buried the feud. Now, in July 2023, Rollins is the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion, and Rhodes is engaged in a bitter feud with Brock Lesnar. While Rollins hasn’t clashed with Rhodes in months, it looks like the two might renew their rivalry.

Rollins won the belt after defeating AJ Styles at Night of Champions PLE in Saudi Arabia. The tournament also had Rhodes taking part. While he had his chance, it was Lesnar who prevented him from progressing further in the tournament by unleashing another vicious attack.

Prior to that, ‘The Prince of Pro Wrestling’ had professed his desire to wrap the gold around his waist. However, that didn’t materialize. When he was asked about the said championship and his plans at the Money In The Bank press conference, the 38-year-old said, “Winning the World Heavyweight Championship would be outstanding. It would be amazing.”

Responding to the comments from his WrestleMania 38 rival, Rollins challenged him to a duel. “I would love for Cody Rhodes come try to take it from me,” ‘The Visionary’ told USA TODAY Sports.

However, he also didn’t let go of the opportunity to doubt Rhodes’ ability against Lesnar. The duo are likely to have their third match at SummerSlam in August.

“If he can survive Brock Lesnar, I would love for him to try to. I’m better than I’ve ever been; he don’t stand a chance,” the World Heavyweight Champion said.

Rollins also didn’t mince his words about Rhodes getting a push ahead of him right after his return from injury.

WWE’s push for Cody Rhodes left Seth Rollins filled with resentment

As mentioned above, Rhodes was out because of an injury shortly after his return. That resulted in him staying away from action for the remainder of 2022. He made his return at Royal Rumble in January.

After sending Gunther over the ropes, Rhodes won the prestigious match and booked his ticket to WrestleMania 39 by challenging Roman Reigns. It was a no-brainer that a match against the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion would give him a main-event slot.

While it was a big moment for Rhodes, the same left Rollins unhappy. Speaking to Ryan Satin recently, he said he had resentment but wasn’t jealous of Rhodes.

Rollins also said that wrestlers should be prepared to have moments that don’t go as per plan. The 37-year-old, however, said despite that, one should strive for excellence and wait for their time.

Rhodes is currently waiting for his time to complete his story, with his missing piece being closely guarded by Reigns. As of now, it’s unlikely that the gold will change hands anytime soon. So, will Rhodes set his eyes on Rollins’ belt?

What do you think? Do you believe Rollins will defeat Rhodes if they clash? Let us know in the comments.
