When it comes down to wrestling, there is only one moment that is etched into the memories of millions of fans. Whether it is ‘The Rock’ or ‘Stone Cold’, fans remember their feud and that’s all people needed. In the case of ‘Hulk Hogan’, though, the moment when he became the greatest was WrestleMania 3 and fans still remember it.

In the middle of Madison Square Garden, the slam that was heard around the world was the moment when Hulk Hogan captured the audience’s love. But that might have not happened at all if one person didn’t put aside his ego and helped form wrestling’s greatest hero. In storytelling, they always say that for a great hero to be admired, a tremendous villain should oppose him. And that was the role ‘Andre the Giant’ played to perfection.

Hulk Hogan remembers his greatest victory at WrestleMania 3

In the video, while talking about the match that made history, an emotional Hulk Hogan said, “… when I went for the leg drop, I hit the leg drop thinking he’s gonna kick out and you know, he didn’t kick out.

A match that fans still remember fondly brought WWE the biggest crowd it had ever seen. But as Hogan said, if Andre had kicked out of that leg drop, fans wouldn’t have Hulk Hogan standing on the pedestal that he is on today. This also puts greater focus on the three seconds in a wrestling match. If the last three seconds in the WrestleMania 3 main event had been any different, the careers of two legends would’ve altered greatly.

While in the history books, Hogan has a great place, the same is not true for Andre. WWE did not credit the Giant, who shocked the wrestling world enough with his body of work. He was a great wrestler, but WWE limits his legacy to WrestleMania 3.

But the matches and moments before meeting Hogan were also as momentous and important for the wrestling world today. Except for the Andre the Giant memorial match, there wasn’t much for him.
