The Undertaker is regarded as one of the greatest pro-wrestlers to have ever stepped foot in the squared circle. The phenom was a fearsome force ever since his debut in WWF/WWE and became a living legend with time. He won several championships like the Royal Rumble and maintained an undefeated streak of 21 years at WrestleMania.

The Undertaker retired in 2020 after his final match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36. The Deadman was also a great wrestler to work with and was a locker room leader. During his long career, he put several upcoming and new wrestlers over. However, the most iconic one came at WrestleMania 30 when his undefeated streak was broken by Brock Lesnar.

The Undertaker, during his final years as a wrestler, had a very forgetful rivalry and a match with Goldberg at WWE Super Showdown 2019 in Saudi Arabia. The match was lackluster and full of botches. Incidentally, the match also featured several rough spots where both the superstars were in dangerous positions of suffering injuries.

During The Undertaker: The Last Ride documentary, Taker spoke about that match, and his frustrations involving it. He said, “My reactions after the match, this dejected look on my face and there was cause I was upset. He was really disappointed, I was disappointed.”

Michelle McCool, the wife of Mark Calaway aka The Undertaker, also gave her opinion. She said, That crushed me because I knew how much it would crush him. But more than that, his safety. I just knew. I knew when he came just centimeters away from breaking his neck. I texted the doctors, I was like ‘Is he okay?”

McCool continued, Normally if he is away and I know something has happened, I text him ‘you okay?’ and he’s like Yeah I’m good. Don’t worry I’m good.’ And I text him how bad is it? And he said, ‘man my back is jacked up. For him to admit that he truly is in some serious pain, I don’t think I can even fathom how bad it really was.”

The match was disappointing and received backlash from both fans and critics. Even The Undertaker admitted the near calls and risks to injuries in that match. He said, It’s just like ‘wow’ that was really close to me. Catastrophic.” Even McCool found it tough watching the match and the condition of her husband.

She claimed, That didn’t feel good at all. It was hard.” The 42-year-old felt that she had seen The Undertaker with a lot of injuries or scary moments, but watching this was the toughest.

The 57-year-old veteran said, “There’s this long flight back to the States and my back is bothering me. And I was like ‘man maybe its time. Maybe it is you are out of gas. I‘ve got a wife and kids. And am risking in a permanent injury? So, all that stuff comes flooding in your head after something like that happens. So, then I really take a real honest look at this and assess where I am at.” The Undertaker was conscious of his career and the risks involved and thought of hanging up his boots. Notably, he did so next year after a final match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36.
