Donald Trump, the former President of the United States of America, made quite a few appearances for WWE over the years. His most notable appearances came at RAW and WrestleMania in the latter half of the 2000s. At WrestleMania 23, he was part of the ‘Battle of the Billionaires’ storyline with Vince McMahon. However, one WWE legend believes it was a seldom mentioned Trump appearance on WWE TV over two decades ago that set the tone for his election campaign.
Trump, along with his wife Melania Trump, appeared on WWE TV at ringside in 2000.

Former WWE commentator Jim Ross thinks Trump stole an idea from WWE for his electoral run.
Jim Ross believes Donald Trump stole an idea from Stone Cold
During a WWE event from Madison Square Garden in 2000, cameras caught Donald Trump in attendance with fans. Jim Ross revealed how that appearance helped shape Trump’s public image.
He said on the Grilling JR podcast, “it kind of planted a seed right of presidential stuff and you know Vince did a hell of a job trying to humanize Trump as being at ringside with a bunch of other wrestling fans”.
JR also said he believes Trump took Stone Cold’s ‘cap’ idea for his ‘Make America Great’ again campaign.
He explained, “I’ve always said one of the reasons Trump wore his cap during the last campaign that said ‘Make ‘America Great Again’ because they got the idea off Stone Cold’s caps. You will say JR oh my god that’s a stretch. But he saw how Austin was responded to.”
“Somehow or other he correlated that to he could be more of an everyday guy. And not the son of a rich real estate developer in New York City. Silver spoon… special schools you know with all this other s**t. It could be more normal or blue-collar by wearing a baseball cap.”
While fans may think that the legendary commentator is reaching far with his claims, but stranger things have happened.

Trump made this appearance during a time when WWE’s popularity was at its peak. He may have noticed how fans took to a fan favorite like Austin and went that route.
It’s difficult to say whether Trump used ‘Stone Cold’s’ caps as an inspiration for his own promotion years later. But even if he did, he always helped WWE to get mainstream attention.
