Murdoch said Vince McMahon sided with him over the fan incident
Vince McMahon always prioritized the conduct of his WWE stars over everything else. He wanted his product to have a squeaky clean image as it is a publicly traded company. However, he knew when to protect his wrestlers from issues that could harm their careers.
In an interview with NBC Sports, Trevor Murdoch narrated one such incident. Murdoch said that he and his tag team partner Lance Cade once got arrested after getting into a fight with some fans in Ireland while on a European tour.
Murdoch recalled it all began when a fan started asking Randy Orton, who was with them, for not signing a second autograph at a hotel bar. After the fan’s belligerence, Orton told him to leave him alone and called for security when he once again interrupted them. The security eventually removed the fan.
He said a physical altercation happened after they moved out of the bar to get on a bus. While they were walking, the fan came running behind Orton with an intention of hitting him. But Murdoch, who was walking behind Orton, “smoke him right in the face”.
Moreover, he said, that this guy was part of an Irish wedding reception. Hence, he soon found himself surrounded by about 25 Irishmen. But luckily for him, his in-ring partner, Lance Cade, bulldozed them, rescuing Murdoch. Eventually, this led to the arrest of the then WWE tag team champions.
Murdoch said afterwards when they flew back, he was worried about getting fired. But when they confronted Vince McMahon about what happened, he gave them a surprising response. Murdoch added, “He sat there for — I don’t know, it felt like an eternity. But it was probably only 15-20 seconds, and he goes, ‘Oh, you know what boys, it’s good for the fans to get their a***s kicked every once in a while [does Vince laugh]. Don’t worry about it, I’ll have the lawyers take care of it.’”
